Sounds like sleep should definitely be your priority this year. I’m definitely going to work on mine.

Goals for next year? Is there anything you could do including R?

I can’t even fathom this

I’m a big lump too but I’m a female one I guess. 45kg is the best I can manage.

I’m not sure really, in theory things should be easier next year because by the end of it R will have started school, and even from January he is doing one longer day of preschool, so more time for exercise by myself. Probably I am just too lazy and easily disheartened to make real change though.

Not really sure what I could do with him, more walks but that isn’t much. Will probably get him a bike for his birthday so I guess I will be jogging alongside him a lot of he takes to that :grinning:

Playing dodgeball with my nephews on our landing at the weekend got my heart rate up so much my Fitbit recorded it as an exercise session. Good fun and you get to pelt them with a ball every now and then

yeah, I think i’ll wait until I hit my target weight before concentrating seriously on increasing weight. my only motivation behind lifting weights so far has been to lose weight, tone up a bit and increase flexibility.

also not confident enough to do chest presses and squats with the bar, so just do everything with dumbells.

Fucking lol, just did legs and core, and thought I’d go along to my first ever yoga session after. Turns out it’s more or less the same exercises I’ve just done  walked out 10 mins in right through the whole class.

well, well cringe.

Upsides:

Started the year around 14 stone 5 pounds, no job and living a completely sedentary lifestyle. Took up cycling in March, got a job in April (which involves being on my feet all day) and I’m currently fluctuating around the 11st 12 lb - 12st 2lb mark. I’m amazed at how well I’ve taken to cycling and am now a fully fledged #bikewanker; it’s done wonders for both my physical strength and mental well being. I was also rather pleased to find I’m quite good at it too  In March I was really struggling with the local climbs, resting halfway through them etc - I signed up to Strava, bought a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt for in-ride motivation, and by the end of the summer I’d nabbed a few all-time top 5 results on those same climbs. I was very fit in my teens and twenties (mainly through walking, squash and fitba), so it’s nice to know I’ve still got something to give now that 40 isn’t far off. TBH I feel fitter now than I ever have in my life.

Downsides:

Been pretty much inactive since October after getting flu, bad pneumonia then tonsilitis in quick succession. It’s taken more than two months to get back to anything like feeling well, and I’m only just getting out walking and tentatively on a bike again. I’m also probably still drinking too much, so that’s a goal for 2020.

This is the book I’ve asked for- http://www.waterstones.com/book/why-we-sleep/matthew-walker//9780141983769?awc=3787_1576624315_85c31345f07102b80262907455ca7e4c&utm_source=176013&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=RedBrain

And with this in mind I am going to bed NOW. 2 hours earlier than usual.

Give us the highlights once you’ve read it!

I’m lighter now than I was this time last year according to my GP.

I do more exercise than this time last year and feel like I have more options for doing things if things get cancelled.

Eating less meat and more vegetables, and drinking more water.

All of the above will fluctuate somewhat over the year and I’m sort of comfortable with that too. It turns out different times of the year are better/ fitter/ more stressful for me and I either need to be stricter with myself or just accept the results.

Did some very basic gym work last night and everything hurts. Everything other than my legs is embarrassingly pissweak

Please forgive all the long-distance cycling talk:

I wanted to ride at least 12000km this year. I’ve done 15701km - will almost certainly get to 16000km before the year’s over, and if I do an extra 94km that’ll be ten thousand miles.

I guess the main goal of this year was Paris-Brest-Paris, which I completed, even if it was Fucking Difficult. As well as a completing a Super Randonneur series and my second RRtY (doing at least a 200km every month for 12 successive months). Not really sure where to go after this; maybe feeling more comfortable with climbing? Eating better and shifting some weight would really help with this, but I just… can’t be arsed.

Heaviest I’ve ever been in my whole life but fuck it I feel great

Might try and lose a bit of weight after the Christmas blowout but only so I can reach my goal of doing an unassisted pull-up by the end of next year, but I’m not gonna force it as I don’t want to go back to wishing my body was different

I feel like this year I learned that exercise isn’t just for people who are thin or who want to be thin, which might sound obvious to a lot of people but wasn’t to me for a very long time
