any of yous ever try the ski machine? fuck me

Is that the one where you pull cables down to both your sides? It’s hard.

yeah, that’s the thing. arms were fucked after

I’ve just finished a half hour kettlebells class. I thought I was reasonably fit these days but jfc that killed me.

it never gets easier, you just go faster

My PT gets me on that for like 20 seconds a pop along with some other stuff in a superset when she thinks I don’t look tired enough

It’s not as bad as the appropriately named assault bike though

My mate recommended the FIIT app which seems really good actually. It’s free for a basic app and you get like 75 x 25 min classes and there’s lots of strength stuff using body weight so easy to do at home. I’m gonna do one on the weekend and over Christmas.

Yeah I use it to warm up sometimes! I don’t know if I’m meant to be doing a small jump but I do a small jump

We do that so often in functional/hiit classes that I’ve acclimatised to it now. It’s no longer the exercise of death - that’s the battle ropes/burpees now

Hate a burpee, love a battle rope, makes me feel like I’m guiding a chariot to battle

I’m gonna steal that one!

When stuff gets hard I make things up to keep me going

Like when I need to maintain motivation doing dumbbell lateral raises I imagine I’m flying and I need to keep flapping my wings to stay in the air otherwise I fall to the ground

“oh god my arms, I’ll push harder with my legs. oh god my legs, I’ll push harder with my arms. oh no my arms are still fucked. wtf how has it only been 15s”

Your progress in this thread is really inspiring, mate/bud/pal.

Ended this year absolutely miserable. Boozing every day, pushing 17st, barely move, eating shite. Need to have another go at it in the New Year.

cheers man

I found the first month or so pretty shit tbh - knowing my habits and that it could all go tits up at any moment. gets easier and even enjoyable once you get into a routine and create little milestones for yourself. like, I want to run this distance or I want to lift this weight. also use myfitnesspal to track calories and exercise.

scheduling treat days every week is probably the most important thing, actually.

honestly, if I can shift a few pounds and peel myself from the couch, anyone can. rooting for you man

I do the same with battle ropes

all the rest are quite boring. running and swimming - imagining i’m in the olympics.

People who use the bar to chest press/squat/overhead press, do you need someone to spot for you? I’m going to try and work some bar stuff into my workout next year as I’m just using dumbbells atm, and I’d like to mix it up to make it more interesting. Just a bit terrified of the thing calling on top of me :grimacing:

squat / ohp - no
bench - sometimes

i always use a bench that has safetys so that i can’t drop it on my face, so no need for a spotter. but if I’m on a bench without one and going for a max / amrap set then I’ll ask for one.

people are usually happy to do it
