Not sure how I feel on this one.

Don’t have the slightest interest in having Goff around. He’s shown himself to be a fringe starter and is massively overpayed. Hoping we still target a QB this year and get rid of him, but now we’re stuck his albatross contract.

Two firsts feels fair though, even if they’re likely to be bottom end. Still gives you good ammo and flexibility if you want to move. Hope Campbell and Holmes work out because they really have the capacity to build a team in their image now.

Not sure I love the move for Stafford. He gets a good defence for the first time since 2014 and a talented coach so I suspect he’ll do well enough. Don’t really want to root for an NFC team but I hope he does alright.

Wow, the Rams REALLY wanted out of the Jared goff experience. I don’t really get it tbh, Stafford is a marginal upgrade at best, and might not even be that if you factor in age. Definitely prefer the Lions side of it even if they just plan to draft a QB to replace Goff in a year or two.

Looking a bit closer it seems like after this year it’s easy enough to move on, so feeling a bit better about it now.

Kind of weird to look at the success Goff has had and still feel like he’s a bit rubbish though. A Super Bowl appearance and two Pro Bowls! And he’s still young! (NB: DO NOT TALK YOURSELF INTO GOFF)

Rams really did an Osweiler on him, huh.

The knock on Goff has always been that he’s an average quarterback who has benefited from having Sean McVay telling him what to do, which is probably uncharitable while not being wholly inaccurate.

Think the Lions have done really well here, they’ve got a good haul of picks and a QB who still has a lot of potential who at the very least should see them through a couple of years of rebuilding. Got a good price before other teams moved QBs and the market dried up too.

Does rather set the bar, doesn’t it? A starting QB plus 2 firsts and a third for Stafford, Watson is better and ten years younger. If you take the Jets as an example, got to be Darnold plus 2nd overall, 27th overall, 2022 first, 2023 first, and then maybe even some more?

I think the Texans will try their level best to keep him but if they get an offer like that they would be mad not to take it really. Watson could make life really difficult and their utter lack of picks mean they won’t compete even with him. It would really hurt short term but I’m fairly sure they would be in a better position in, say, 2023 if they did it.

Thing is, coaches and GMs have their jobs dependant on the short term though, so… plus the Texans have long shown they’ll do whatever the wrong thing to do is with trading.

Has happened plenty of times. Doug Williams was Super Bowl MVP in 1988 and was waived after the '89 season. Trent Dilfer wasn’t re-signed after winning the Super Bowl in 2000.

Yeah, very hard to disagree with much of this. We were 4-12 with Watson FFS, and that was as much to do with Bill O’Brien’s tenure as GM as well as his shortcomings as HC. We’ll likely never have a more talented QB in franchise history but it’ll probably be the end of his current contract before we’re ready to take him to a Superbowl. This franchise sucks

I remember reading a breakdown of Goff’s Metrics a couple of seasons ago which suggested he could have a breakout/much improved year. It was a ff preview, so I dunno how much weight that carries if any.

reckon goff is gonna really hit it off with the kneecap man, and the lions will be viewed as the big winners of this trade.
