The Texans do seem like the AFC’s Vikings and vice versa. Both are very Arsenalish.

Can completely understand why division titles and playoff appearances would look good to the absolute cellar teams of the NFL, but I’m not sure accepting mediocrity out of fear of complete ineptitude is necessarily the best philosophy to run a team. Especially so in the NFL where successful rebuilds are very much possible and you really have to be spectacularly incompetent to have sustained periods of failure like the Lions or Jets.

99.9% of the time that mindset results in stagnation at best.

It’s kind of funny because they’re built almost completely differently.

Vikings: good head coach, strong defense, lots of talent at skill positions, non-elite QB

Texans: elite QB, mediocre head coach, burning trash defense, binmen at skill positions (with the exception of Hopkins before he left)

Ehhh… Johnson is solid but only available for half a season. Swift is a rookie and already hurt. Scarborough is one dimensional. Peterson is old. Will be a total mish-mash of 70 yard performances.

Living the absolute dream

Football is (somehow) back this week so let us predict!

AFC division winners: Ravens, Bills, Texans, Chiefs
Wildcards (there are 3 now!) : Steelers, Chargers, Colts

NFC division winners: Packers, Cowboys, Saints, Seahawks
Wildcards: 49ers, Vikings, Bucs

Supwebowl winners: Ravens (over Saints)
MVP: Jackson
OPOY: Jackson
DPOY: TJ Watt
OROY: Henry Ruggs
DROY: Chase Young
First overall pick: Jaguars (tough one this, think Washington and Detroit are really going to stink again this year. Also feels like the Rams could absolutely capitulate, but would probably shop the pick if they got it.)

And finally, how do you think New England will do? Personally I see a 7-9 finish bolstered by 4 easy wins from the Jets/Dolphins. That linebacking corps is an absolute disaster though, and I think Edelman will turn into a pumpkin with Brady gone.

oh I don’t know

all I want is Falcons to surprise everyone by being really good

in fact generally, I just want to go with it and let the football happen to me with no expectations beyond that

although I think the Chiefs will repeat

Pats, I hope they have a horrible year, but I think they’ll get 10-6 somehow if Cam doesn’t break down

AFC division winners: Steelers, Pats, Colts, Chiefs
Wildcards : Ravens, Bills, Broncos

NFC division winners: Eagles, Cardinals, Vikings, Buccaneers
Wildcards: Saints, 49ers, Seahawks

Superbowl winners: Steelers (over Buccaneers)
MVP: James Connor
OPOY: Dashaun Watson
DPOY: Darius Leonard
OROY: Jonathan Taylor
DROY: Isaiah Simmons
First overall pick: Jets

Pats: 11-5, division winner. In Belichick I trust. Still an elite defense, loaded backfield, playmakers. Bills will give them a run, but until Bill proves me wrong, I’ll still have them winning 11 games every year.

AFC division winners: Ravens, Patriots, Colts, Chiefs
Wildcards: Steelers, Bills, Titans

NFC division winners: Packers, Cowboys, Saints, 49ers
Wildcards: Seahawks, Vikings, Buccs

Superbowl winners: Chiefs (over Saints)
MVP: Mahomes
OPOY: Mahomes
DPOY: Nick Bosa
OROY: Clyde Edwards-Hilaire
DROY: Jeff Okudah
First overall pick: The Jets

I think the Pats will do fine with Cam and probably win the division thanks to Belichick, but I’m not sure I agree with any of your descriptors there!

Still like the pats defense a lot, know they lost major talent but added Beau Allen on d line, still have Winovich and Stefon Gilmore, love the draft pick of Josh Uche out of Michigan at linebacker, McCourty brothers. Think they will be a top 10 defensive unit easy.

While they don’t have a horse at RB, they are deep as always. Sony Michel, Burkhead, White, rookie Damien Harris will get a lot of work. That’s deep enough for me. Edelman their guy, but N’Keal Harry if he stays healthy will have a big year. WR their weak spot but they will pick someone up if needed.

In Belichick you trust.

Wow. Murray, Hopkins and Drake is great but otherwise, they seem pretty limited. Would be amazing if they top the NFL West. Think it’s a tossup between the 'hawks and 49ers.

Oh man I love the Cardinals this year. Lots of weapons for Kingsbury in the Air Raid, Isaiah Simmons will be ALL over the field. Good Jordan Phillips signing, had 10 sacks last year. Vance Joseph will have that defensive unit moving all over. They are going to put up points in buckets I feel.

Watson for OPOY despite the Texans missing the playoffs is an interesting shout.

oooo did I forget to put them in there? We will lose the broncos and add the Texans.

This is still nuts, isn’t it?

there’s no way the pats won’t win it this year i’m afraid.

Fitzpatrick named starter at the Dolphins. He went to Harvard, you know.

Clowney to the Titans makes sense as well after they got rid of Casey. $12m for the year is a lot though.

Fascinated by all the backroom picks for cash trades that apparently went on regarding Clowney. Not surprised that the NFL nixed them but would make things… interesting.
