Texans owner Bob McNair is dead. I don’t want to fire up the “Speaking Ill of the Dead” thread on the account of this racist and trans-/homophobe, so I’ll let Chris Kluwe’s public response to McNair donating $10,000 to an anti-LGBT campaign speak for him

‘“Surely,” I said to myself, “one of the NFL’s thirty-two owners, businessmen with more accumulated wealth than most third world nations and completely vested in the well-being of the society that afforded them such success … surely this man could not be a pants-on-head, cowhumping glue-huffer stupid enough to buy in on clearly outdated ideals of bigotry and intolerance?”

Sadly, however, it appears I must hide my livestock, because the facts do not lie. You have, indeed, donated $10,000 to a cause whose sole purpose is to denigrate a specific group of American citizens. Which begs the question — WHY?

Why does the idea of LBGT individuals enjoying the same rights and protections as everyone else fill you with such hatred, such loathing, that you would voluntarily choose to make their lives even more difficult than the prejudice they’ve faced for decades? Is it too much time spent watching your vanity sports purchase fail to accomplish anything more meaningful than a JJ Watt cellphone commercial that hardens your heart towards those facing a drastically elevated risk of suicide compared to the general population?’

Solid insulting.

Poor Hue Jackson. Snapping the 25 game away losing streak he masterminded as Browns head coach by giving them 28 points in a half as Bengals DC

I do feel bad for him - instinct tells me that more 50-yarders are missed than made, and on top of that at the end of the game you have the added pressure that if you miss you effectively give the opposition the field goal they need to win the game. Poor bloke.

At the same time, though, lol

Going to share this here because it will probably be more appreciated here than elsewhere: this weekend Oregon Ducks safety Nick Pickett got an interception.

Also, them rushing stats

Verdell also got a receiving touchdown. Terrible opposition, but still :+1:

I like to imagine the commentator saying “Nick Pickett picked it!” after Nick got the pick :grinning:

Actual madness in the last 2 minutes of the first half at Indianapolis. From 1.49 to go, it was TD, TD, Int, Fumble, Int, end of half.

Going to have to wait at least for bowl season now, though the kid is just a sophomore so potentially two more pick-filled Pickett years to come.

Sorry to derail the NFL thread was silly name chat, but let’s be honest that is at least 25% of the appeal of American sports, right?

We were all here sensibly enjoying the sporting endeavours of JuJu Smith-Schuster before you waded in with silly name chat
