Pretty strong direct.
Started Xenoblade over and looking nice so far. The stories/locations from all three have blurred into one, so going in with close to fresh eyes.

Something almost unnerving about a Nintendo console getting cross platform games for the first time since the Switch, though I suppose it was always the inevitable outcome of diminishing performance gains.
Quick spin on Knockout Tour this morning. Still think World is an absolutely staggeringly good game, though wrapped in some quite standard Nintendo frustrations I suppose.

Started playing Blue Fire this week. Seems to be a Metroid Vania style 3D game that takes it’s inspiration from older Zelda games (it has dungeons) and some Dark Souls mechanics. Enjoying the exploration side of it so, even if the combat has not been as challenging as some of the platforming sections.
What do you love about it? Genuinely curious to know, and not because I want to knock it, because I’d love for it to click.
My impression so far is that the game is pretty empty of content/tracks, the karts don’t ‘feel’ particularly good on the track, it’s too easy compared to previous versions, and the ‘world’ element makes the overlapping tracks all feel a bit samey. The only reason I’m reaching for it over MK8 at this point is because I want to give it a chance. I’ll admit I haven’t given much time to roam, but it seems like a bit like there’s not really much to do when I give it a go. It feels like it needs tying to a career mode.
Been hoping that DLC will boost it, but yeah, maybe I just need to put more time into it?

Have you looked up the kind of tricks and shortcuts that the world record holders are pulling off? The skill ceiling on that stuff alone is bonkers.
Trying to decide whether to get one of these. Haven’t picked up the Switch in a while and if I’m honest I mostly used it to play old games.

This all resonates for me, and I still think it boils down to upping the racer count, which necessitated widening the roads and reducing the turns. It’s trying to replace the chaos of track layouts with the chaos of crowding. But if you get clear of the pack you’re just kinda going forward. Then you’ve got things like the elimination mode intentionally reducing the karts but without adding complexity to the course as the racers dwindle.
Almost feels like it was made for speed runners or serious competitive players, but the optimized layers they’re using aren’t really accessible in casual play.

Sake. I’m really liking the look of the new Splatoon based on the direct. Was hoping I could keep digging into my backlog instead of itching for something new!

I’ve never played FF7. Is this version good?
The battle system is really good, but the drawn out story holds nothing to the original. It’s pretty much a corridor sim and the side quests are awful (skip them). Worth it for this price, to get to the far better sequel, Rebirth.
The original game is incredible, great story, pacing and the battle system is still good, if you like turn based. I replay it every few years if only for the phenomenal soundtrack.

Finally picked up Remake and I agree with all of this.
Kinda fascinating how the ‘improved’ graphics and voice acting completely destroy the charm of just about everything.
