Just hope it’s got something new in it.
It’s been a bit diminishing returns for me, for a while.
Needs something fresh to make me get it again I think.

It’s a franchise that has the potential for some kind of spin off in another genre if they’ve got gameplay ideas without an obvious fit.
Hell, maybe they could make a version of Wii Music that people actually like with Splatoon attached.

Monster Hunter World. Not the one that just came out and sold 10 million copies, the older one, after a brief few seconds of teasing a Monster Hunter game and letting people assume it’s the one they’d be excited about.
As boring as it is, just having a new Mario Kart to play with my son is going to be rad and he is very excited to see some gameplay of it.
The Steam Deck has really taken over my portable indie needs, so excited to see the Nintendo specific things. Tbh want one to Play Xenoblade Chronicles X

It just so happens both my kids are in a school concert tomorrow afternoon. I took the afternoon off ages ago for it and it starts at 2pm. I’m going to be checking my phone…
Not only that but our MD announced today that we (well not me because I booked the afternoon off) are all going to the pub tomorrow afternoon to make the end of a successful year at the company. My kids better be good

Possibly not the biggest Nintendo news of the day but I’ve just received a drug alert from the police saying that there is a batch of Goomba pills being sold and they’ve explained that Goomba is the character that looks like a mushroom on Mario Kart.

The difficult thing is that they released at least one game that is the platonic ideal for nearly every franchise they have in the Switch era. I don’t think I ever need another Mario Kart, or Mario Party, or 2D Mario, or 2D Donkey Kong, or Splatoon, and what can they really do with 3D Mario to top Odyssey? I think people who like Smash Bros and Animal Crossing have pretty much had their fill of it with those games.
Going into the Switch, Pokémon had only ever been handheld, the last main series Zelda was on the Wii and not very popular, 3D Mario had been very linear since the Wii and grid based since the Wii U. Mario Maker had only one iteration with a low install base, 2D Mario had been widely seen as a bit poor since the Super Nintendo, and stuff like Luigi’s Mansion, Mario Party, Smash Bros, Animal Crossing hadn’t really been played by most of their audience on a home console in over a decade if ever.
Feels a bit like the Switch’s success was due to being able to give people a HD version of all these series that were popular on way more limited hardware - that thing you love from years ago just drilling down hard on its core principles and looking and running modern for the first time. There’s an obvious and immediate appeal for people to go out and buy it. It will be interesting to see how they refresh that appeal a second time around.
