I’m playing the Splatoon demo and it seems really kinda shit? -You’re wrong
I keep getting steamrolled - Avoid the rollers, swim away
and can’t jump high enough to get up the platforms. - You swim in the paint up the walls
How do you change weapons? You select your loadout before you start a game

Also it is really slow. - its not
And fuck motion controls pal to hell. Almost quit the tutorial because of it. - you can turn these off but gyro aim is great when your used to it

Any questions?

One day the world is going to realise that motion controls were the way forward, and it wasn’t them; it was us.

Motion assisted* controls are the future.

A few years ago, security so was so tight at Nintendo that I didn’t believe rumours like this, but seems like a lot of recent leaks have been true (2D Zelda’s, Xbox games on Switch, VR Labo etc):

So this wouldn’t surprise me.

It’ll be interesting to see how they treat games like Mario Party and 1-2-Switch on a cheap, non-JoyCon portable. Do the games simply not load when you put them in? Can you search the eshop by device to stop erroneous purchases? I can see the benefit though. A £100-150 cheaper Switch with fixed controllers to just play indies and platformers would suit my kids amazingly plus I could control their playtime via the official app.

The more powerful model is where it gets murky. Their past New models of consoles or Expansion devices have largely been garbage beyond the first high profile release.

I guess if it’s a slightly bigger screen, resolution and frame rate then I’m cool with that and I’ll be jealous, but pass. If it splinters releases across the platforms and the new model starts getting decent PS4 ports whilst the original one gets left behind, then 2 years into a console cycle that feels plain wrong.

Give that boy an oled screen

Less Bezels version I reckon:

and an XL with bigger joycons for large-handers.

I imagine the biggest thing will be battery life and screen size. Announce it as having 6-8 hours battery life and people will love it.

The bonus level of Ape Out is fucking glorious. Took me 2 and a half hours to beat it but gave me that same rush as a Dark Souls boss or the Celeste endgame.

Happy Final Fantasy VII on Nintendo Switch day, guys!

Im just relieved Brexit has been postponed so we can use the day to celebrate a pretty Yoshi game

I played the Yoshi demo… found it quite… placid? Was very nice to look at, but I didn’t really get much out of it.

Going to add FFVII to my watchlist (along with Undertale, Stardew Valley, Cuphead, can’t remember what else). Have still never really played an RPG - is it a good place to start?

Yoshi platformers are relatively simple and I think it was an early level. They’re mainly about charm and finding all the secrets than huge amounts of challenge, so if you’re looking for something tough then you’ll be more interest in the indie platformers.

I think a lot of aspects of it are dated, like the random encounters and some of the graphics (although generally think it’s a very pretty game, especially the backgrounds and environments). But as far as RPGs go, the systems are fairly easy to get your head around and get stuck into, and so the gameplay’s pretty satisfying. The story is (imo) excellent, even if the translation is poor. The music is superb and the game has lots of great set pieces and unforgettable moments. Absolutely worth playing if you can look past its shortcomings and how old it is.

I’ve started 9 and that feels a little less dated, and the gameplay feels maybe a little more polished. So potentially a better starting point. Still waiting for the story to pick up (whereas FF7 kicks things off really well) but enjoying it so far.

I ended up buying Constructor over the weekend (obviously was spoiling to buy something nostalgic!)

Haven’t gone in for a regular game yet, been doing the missions. Ended up getting a bit surprised once they started to ramp up from being simply methodical getting used to what all the characters do again to slightly more involved missions. Was just following the exact mission brief rather than tend to the pre built houses, think about upgrading tenants etc. Then got stung by an objective that needed me to build a level 5 house (despite now having mentioned anything about how to go about getting higher level tenants/houses anywhere previously). As I’ve played before, I knew how to do it, but was a bit frustrating first time, as I could have been doing gradual upgrades before if I’d known that was coming. Minor miffle though.

Still a really fun game, great voices, and love all the stupid shit you can do with the undesirables.
