Yeah it’s great. I preferred the turn based character, but I’m a noob.

Just checked my Save List in the eshop and it looks like I have 43 games waiting in there (mostly for sales, or to decide if want to buy them).
Current possibilities:

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles (20/% off)
The Mooseman (30% off)
Blossom Tales (33% off)
ChromaGun (50% off)
Fast RMX (20% off)
Subsurface Circular (20% off… might just get this one now anyhow, seeing as it’s so cheap anyway)

I’m currently still playing through Mario & Rabbids. I’ve completed the main game with top rankings, and have now started on the Donkey Kong extra content. Very satisfying / challenging game.

Going to at least get Blossom Tales and Crypt of the Necrodancer.

More stuff being added to the sale next week, so keep an eye on it if you’re holding out for something in particular…

I’ve just started Guacamelee today and really like it! Pretty sure I’ll grab the sequel and roll straight into that.

I’m only an hour and a half in but it does have a sense of being very special.

Puzzles are logical and gameplay wise, feels like one of those Inside / Rime / Journey / Gorogoa type games where it’s magical but have little replay value.

But, fuck me, the art style is incredible and the music may… MAY… be the best gaming soundtrack I’ve heard since… well… ever? It pretty much reduced me to tears on a packed train. It’s really something.

South Park Fractured But Whole is now £18.99 - bargain if you’ve never played it

I listen to the soundtrack almost daily. The game is also lots of fun. Had a good laugh with co-op too, not sure if that works on switch…

Just completed Gris.

Won’t say anything about it for fear of spoilers, but all I will say is avoid watching anything about and play it asap.

I think it’s possibly an all timer and definitely my game^ of the year (not had a lot of competition, mind)

^ Or rather a short abstract puzzle experience. Not sure it’s a ‘game’…

Each of the 8 characters has their own storyline and you can gather up all the characters to form parties. It’s not like a single character rpg 8 times.

I guess my main issue was more how necessary it is to gather up other characters? Like could you gather up 3, 4 then leave it at that?

Just airing some thoughts (still no Switch, it’ll have to be next year):

Watched the film Annihilation today (pretty good) and it got me thinking about Metroid Prime 4…

  • I was reminded because there’s a similar aesthetic between the film and the series. There are echoes in the music, the sense of isolation but also how the mutations are kind of plant based (basically its something different to Geiger)

  • The problem is, I feel those key themes of biology and loneliness diminished gradually over the Prime trilogy…by Corruption (decent game, but completely different vibe) they had all but gone. I fear a “fourth” could continue this, but hopefully not. I also think trilogies work best, narratively…

  • I’m not too worried about a lack of details…if it’s to be the next “Triple A” Switch game then that takes time (I also recall the first Prime starting out on rocky ground - think Miyamoto got involved?). I just hope they manage to create an achievement close to BoTW…in the sense of something exciting that recaptures a key aspect of the classic series.

Thing I want most from it is that total sense of isolation. Prime was incredible in that you felt surrounded by strange creatures on an alien, living world but it was your job to get through it with just your wits and scanner.

I like that they tried a more epic, narrative driven approach with Corruption but it just proved to me that this isn’t what Metroid is about. Back to Samus Vs the world, I hope.

I came across this Nintendolife video from a few months back about some Switch Indie games, and so I’ve just bought a few now:

  1. Yoku’s Island Express
  2. Oxenfree
  3. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
  4. West of Loathing
  5. Ironcast
  6. Crypt of the Necrodancer
  7. Floor Kids
  8. The Next Penelope
  9. Steredenn: Binary Stars
  10. Membrane

I already have and loved the first three games in the list, and have now just bought Crypt of the Necrodancer (£3.59, 88% off), Membrane (£0.86, 88% off), and The Next Penelope (£3.99, 63% off).
West of Loathing and Ironcast have gone on my WatchList, as I now have plenty of games to keep me occupied for a while!

Adored 1 and 7, liked 2 a lot as well, so shall investigate a few of these! Ta

Started the demo with other characters and found it a bit slow and boring this time.

Might hold out now…
