Got a Switch a Christmas present to myself. If someone can refer me to all the posts in this thread where people who’ve just got Switches ask what all the best games are that would be great.

If not, tell me what all the best games are!

Congratulations!

Basics:

Get an Orzly Tempered glass screen protector.
Purchase a protective carry case for it asap.

Give the grip a go for a while, but if you find yourself playing at home on the TV a lot, buy a Pro Controller when you can (they’re £70 though so aren’t a day one priority).

In terms of games, depends what you want.

Single player modern classics:
Breath of the Wild. Mario Odyssey. Mario Vs Rabbids. Picross.

Epic quests:
Xenoblade 2. Let’s go Pokémon. Octopath Traveller.

Games from last gen you may have missed:
DOOM. Skyrim. Dark Souls. LA Noire. Inside. Stardew Valley. Bayonetta 1&2. Captain Toad.

Platform games:
Sonic Mania. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. Rayman Legends. Shovel Knight. Guacamelee 2. Celeste. Super Meat boy.

Online with strange people:
Mario Kart 8. Rocket League. Splatoon 2. ARMS. Warframe. Fortnite.

Multiplayer in the room:
Snipperclips. Smash Bros Deluxe. Overcooked 2. Mario Party. Drawful 2. Mario Tennis.

Best indies around:
Steamworld Dig 2. Yoku’s island express. Horizon Chase Turbo. FAST RMX. Hollow Knight. Dead cells. Floor kids. Gris. Subsurface Circular. Oxenfree.

Off the top of my head…

  • Cat Quest. Definitely get Cat Quest, I cannot stress this enough.

Is that the game with the trailer that showed you growing cats as a crop a few months back? If so, I definitely agree.

I believe you may be thinking of Cat Tail, a mere pretender to the cat-based indie RPG throne. This is Cat Quest

You know when you’re playing Skyrim and you start wishing you were playing a game that works? Cat Quest is that experience.

I love my Switch. Last night I got trapped under a sleeping girlfriend for an hour. I had my Switch to keep me busy.

Also, Monster Hunter is great.

I broke my wrist at the weekend and thusly can’t play many of my games.

I know pokemon is a one handed game but that might be under the tree. So, and cheap one handed games? Picross would be ideal but it won’t let my rebind the left analogue stick to the right. Boooo

EPYX summer games (5000 meters)

how about something slower and turn based, like Civ or Mario & rabbids?

Ah rubbish, sorry mate.

Turn based like Mario vs Rabbids should be good. Maybe point ‘n’ click affairs like Thimbleweed Park? But they all still use the left stick I guess to move…

Into the Breach! Turn based, my favourite game this year, only a tenner or something.

Are there any games which are suitable for local multiplayer with people who have never played games before and do not speak good English? Looking for something that will keep the inlaws entertained over the Christmas period.

overcooked 1&2
snipperclips
smash bros

Overcooked!

Is there any substantial difference between the two Picross games or are they just different sets of puzzles?

Some differces in ui, I think. Also a new mode

£19.99!!! Well worth it, I bought it at £34.99 and just play as Fox McCloud. You don’t have to use the silly toys either.
