I mean they’re the only one left that’s just a videogame company, I think that’s reflected in mostly positive ways from a consumer pov, very little in the way of micro-transactions etc.

Always respected them for sticking to their guns in saying that achievements are a rubbish way to encourage people to play games too

I had completely wiped this from my memory. I remember my disappointment watching this. I used to get hyped for Nintendo E3 months in advance and remember being so deflated when this was one of the big centrepieces.

My favourite thing about Nintendo and a fact I enjoy blowing minds with (though most people here might know it): What year was Nintendō founded?

1889

i like their quality control on software and their games are responsible for some of my fondest memories in life. i think they market their stuff really well too (directs etc)

i do not like how adverse they are to innovating certain things, how expensive their products are, how physically shitty their hardware is, how anti consumer in general they are.

They are generally quite shit at most online things too.

Still bloody love em though

The two things from that financial update I was most interested by.

  1. The release schedule post-Xenoblade looks barren, but don’t be too down hearted. The likelihood is that COVID-19 will have delayed a bunch of games we know are coming (Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, BOTW2) but equally the report made no mention of the long rumoured Mario celebration rereleases. Nintendo never normally gives the game away in these briefings of surprise announcements or titles a way off so I don’t think 2020 literally ends in June for Switch owners as some headlines are saying. Though I can’t imagine it’ll be very full given the current global situation.

  2. Nintendo said they see the Switch as being around halfway through its lifespan. I for one am overjoyed at this. Not just because I’m a tight arse, but more that I think the formula they’ve got here is great and I’d love to see yet more ports of last gen classics, new IPs and sequels to franchises we’ve not had Switch exclusives for yet (Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Captain Toad) and dormant series (Pikmin, Starfox, F-Zero, Pilotwings, Wii Sports).

Point 2 makes me happy. It means that a new model switch will likely hit next year and I’m ready for that. I’ve had three years of utmost joy from it, and that’s more years that I had my Dreamcast in its heyday.

Oh, and just an update - Splatoon 2 is disagreeable which is a shame I really wanted to like it. Thanks for the demo to confirm.

But boy oh boy is Mario Rabbids amazing. I really struggled with the Rabbid Kong boss - the telegraphiing of the Phases was utterly fucked for me as the first hit I did was on a Rabbid who went on fire and ran into his wee slot area, who he threw on the ground in disgust and then opened up the cage and the bananas fell, so for the longest time I couldn’t figure out to trigger it again once all the other rabbids were gone… Until I realised I could trigger it too. Bloody hell. Reddit tells me that that is very rare, so for me to make it happen by accident right away was not helpful! Hahah.

The Wonderful 101 is fucking wild. Need to get my head round exactly where and what I should be focused on, but this feels like the most Platinum of Platinum games.

did this come out?

In a week or two officially. I backed it so just got the code.
Had never played or seen any gameplay, just heard the buzz around it.

still enjoying Streets of Rage 4 but seems I still suck at it - only got as far as stage 6 (I think, it’s the Chinatown level, get as far as the boss but not been able to do it yet), have never got above a C rank. tried a few different characters today, was stuck on stage 5 so at least that’s progress I guess? might have to start using those assists they offer you when you die…

also still playing Tetris 99 a lot, up to 8 wins now :sunglasses:

Tough level that. Have beaten most of Stages 1 to 5 now on Easy, Medium and Hard with a C rank or better but 6 is hard.

Found next few a lot easier.

Considering my only switch internet access options are stealing from my dad’s data or sitting in a cafe half the day for downloading something, I’m getting quite concerned about what I am going to do to get to pokémon dlc when that comes out.

I wonder if any of my neighbours would let me steal their wifi if I asked nicely enough (from an appropriate distance, ofc)

Despite knowing I will buy XC1 at launch and having DQXI to play, I bought XC2 yesterday. Felt like an unnecessary purchase even by my standards.

However, 3 hours in and I love it, why didn’t I buy this game years ago? DQXI is my first JRPG I think (I did play some FFXII when I was young but my save corrupted after a few hours and I didn’t start again) and I really like it but enjoying this as a less traditional one.

Really appreciate the music seen as DQ only has like 5 songs you really hear. Only downside at the moment is the boobs and some of the female outfits in general.

I know I really shouldn’t but I will probably be playing both XC and DQ at the same time as I’m no good at sticking with one game.

Downloading and using the DQ9 soundtrack options midway through was one of the best decisions I made.
Have fun with XC2! I really enjoyed it.

Definitely think that another thing I liked about XC1 is the lack of weird pervy stuff.
