I don’t think so…?

One of my top ten games ever, but hard to justify spending £45 on a game I already own and have put 100 hours into.

Hearing the Epilogue is 20 hours long and it’s own game has made me tempted though.

Very tempted. Mentioned before, played a fair bit of the 3DS version, but felt it needed a proper console experience, so excited about this. But I’ve just gone back to the Witcher 3 (about 40 hours in) - going to wait until I’ve finished the main quests on that before contemplating starting any other huge RPGs!

£45 for a Wii game is mental

1:29.85 now! (After finding a couple of helpful shortcuts!) Although the leaderboards server isn’t connecting for me, so maybe it won’t get uploaded :frowning:

I watched a sub-minute run on YouTube earlier, don’t think I’ll be in that league any time soon (and used some interesting “tricks”)

My time didn’t log unfortunately (so something to bear in mind the next time I play when it says No Connection), but I managed to do it again after rebooting the game and got 1:25 and position 60! I’ve just checked the leaderboards and there are just two people with sub one minute times - impressive!

I’ll continue with the other levels of the game now I think. Not sure if I’ll ever want to do the night time versions though. I had a few attempts on one level, but it feels like they will just be too frustrating!

I watched some Celeste 1 Vs 1 speed runs on YouTube last year, and would love to see that for this game, as there are so many sections where they would need to decide whether to go for a risky shortcut, or go for a more straightforward route - without the safety of just restarting frequently.

It does look like they’ve done a huge overhaul tbf. Whole new 20 hour chapter, graphics engine is entirely different, rescored soundtrack, menus have all been overhauled…

But I tend to agree.

:wink::rofl:

XC is regarded as a remaster rather than a remake, no?

FFVII Remake is quite clearly very, very different to the source material, much to many fans ire

Don’t think they’ve really made the distinction.

But it’s a new engine, new graphics, new version of soundtrack, significant new content = remake.
Sprucing up textures over the old engine = remaster (like recent ff8 release)

Then I’d go more with remake personally.
Still at least its not like fifa where the names just change every year :joy:

Doesn’t sound like a remade game to me tbh.

Famitsu: The original game was originally released for the Wii. It had SD quality graphics. In this remastered version, are graphics, assets and other elements newly created for HD?

Takahashi: Unsurprisingly, productions costs and development time are a limitation. There was no way to recreate everything from scratch. Therefore, we first what we would create anew and not. In particular, weapons and equipment, enemies and map models, among other assets, were limited to texture updates and there were texture upgrades for shaders, the faces and hands of player and key characters, and new equipment and the Monado. We recreated cutscenes and facial animations for scripted scenes.

Although a line was drawn, staff showed their commitment to the project, and assets such as enemies and map models that had not initially been planned to be upgraded received upgrades here and there. Although these updates aren’t built from scratch, it would be nice if you could tell the difference.

I’d give you forty five quid for a copy of Mario Galaxy 2 I could play on my switch with slightly tarted up graphics and be very happy!

Just cos you’d pay it, doesn’t make it a fair/decent price.

Man you will be very happy very soon

Id pay it, play it for hours and sell it back at some point for probably at least half what I paid for it so I’m happy

Value for money is a weird concept with rpgs. I got dark souls essentially for free and have put a significant chunk of my life into it. Even if xenoblade chronicles is just a re skin I could still get months out of it for about what I’d spend on a takeaway curry for my family (actually less) that lasts half an hour. Can’t think of many other things I spend money on where you get so much for your money as a quality rpg

I mean there’s a whole discussion about somethings worth as much as people are willing to pay and also how fair video-game prices are in general.
I remember NES games being £40 in the early '90s. That’s crazy.
£40 for a AAA Nintendo game in 2020, even if it’s a remaster (of one of the very best in its genre) is still fair imo

Totally.
My most played games on switch are XC2, Octopath Traveller and Zelda. High quality rpg/adventure games are superb experiences that you can enjoy for ages.

Value for money is a weird concept in general. I spent as long playing Animal Crossing as I did to beat Ganon on BOTW, but would I value the experience as anywhere near as worthwhile? No. The value I actually got per hour was far, far, far less.

Instead, it should be more in line with what you would pay for that kind of title typically, say if a PS2/PS3 game was rereleased on the PS4.

That said, if it really is a full remake of the game, and it impresses and graphically looks like a AAA Switch game, then fair enough, I guess. I just saw it as a Wii reissue with HD graphics and a bit of extra content.
