I’m not sure anyone needs a boring fitness post ITT, but I’ll try it to and add a bit to what Vamos said, because I’m really happy about the game and I think it works. He’s right, like any exercise it will depend on you but…
Bottom line: I love it. One of my favourite games (or whatever it is) on the Switch, 25 hours
so far, probably that before I tire from it. Then I’ll still use it intermittently when it’s raining/I’m too lazy to go the gym or play sport.
Is it a proper workout? Yes. I’m used to doing a lot of the exercises, so I do everything on the hardest setting and pick intensive exercises, but it pushes me. Several times I’ve collapsed in a sweaty mess, swearing. Depends on what exercises you choose, how long you play for, and potentially a bit of fudging (I’ll find ways of artificially making some levels harder to really push myself). I’d compare it to exercise videos or a gym class, but they’re more fun, the gaming element pushes you to go harder and the motion sensors help you focus on your form.
Is it a good game? It’s fine. It’s fit for the purpose, it’s fun, beating those monsters keeps me going. If the fitness element was removed it would barely be a game, but it’s hard to imagine it without.
Results: I wasn’t really expecting any “results”. I was still doing weights in lockdown, but fuck all cardio as I hate jogging. I’ve genuinely seen my cardio levels go up, my body fat go down, my core develop a fair amount from the fairly intense levels of planking and sit ups and I’ve learned yoga when, for some stupid reason, I’d always been shy about going to classes and hadn’t got the motivation to do it on my own. And it’s saved me from lockdown boredom. I’ve got a lot to thank it for.
Who’s it for? Well, I reckon if you’re a really serious jogger, have triathlon levels of cardio or whatever it’s going to be a bit tame. For anyone else, it’s probably worth a shot, for the purposes of cardio/core/yoga. I’ve kept using it even though I was able to return to the gym a couple of weeks ago, as it’s infinitely more entertaining than an exercise bike/treadmill. It isn’t a miracle worker, you’ll get out of it what you put in, and there’s nothing exercise-wise you couldn’t do on your own but I’m a big fan.
