95% of the talk and media coverage was about the games, not a non-reveal. Hell - a lot of the conversation was about how they and Microsoft won a relatively disappointing E3.

That wouldn’t have happened if this trailer had come out then.

man

  • Fix the joycons
  • Bluetooth for headphones
  • Better battery

All could and should have been included even without a hardware upgrade.

If we are in the middle of the switch lifecycle then maybe this is a small iteration and then there will be something more next year to keep it going strong till like 2023,2024. I know nintendo wants a long lifecycle out of the console.

Good news. Means it will get their full support and there won’t be exclusives just for the pro/Expansion Pack 2021. Clearly not aimed at the upgrade market but ensuring it isn’t obsolete for new customers.

Can’t get annoyed at Nintendo for industry “insiders” making up nonsense.

I’ll not only eat my hat if they launch a 4k / pro model next year, but I’ll return to the news and politics boards as well.

Nintendo haven’t chased gone near chasing specs since the GameCube generation and there’s no reason for them to do it this one.

I was disappointed about E3 from the lack of reveal. That and the complete lack of VC update and Zelda anniversary stuff (though Skyword Sword probably squashed that reveal). Honestly, where’s our virtual console going? They’ve really not kept that up.

It’s not spec chasing, it’s a more than necessary progression just to keep their head above water. 4K was last generation. I still doubt it’ll come out next year though

Why does anyone want a 4k switch there are barely any pc gamers running on 4k

Think we’re gonna have to agree to disagree here. I don’t really accept that 4K was normal in the last generation - you needed one of the beefed up consoled, and plenty of games didn’t support that resolution even with one - and in anycase, the Wii dominated the so called HD generation at 480p.

:joy:

If I was going to buy a 2nd Switch it’d be one of the current models if they cut the cost of those to pave the way for OLED (not too likely).
And then hack my launch model.
Otherwise:

I would buy a Switch to enjoy the exploits of all my favourite cartoon bois like Mario and Pikachu and Waluigi and Massive Sword Anime Guy but that resolution is just too low for me

true but my god were some of those games ugly

Not just ugly - plenty of shovelware back then as well.

looks meaningfully at the eShop

I’m happy for Nintendo to lag behind on hardware and I totally understand it’s not always the most powerful that wins. It just worries me how long they can sustain the current success without improving it at all. You’ve got to keep moving and try not to fall too far behind.

PS4 pro was 2016, xb1x was 2017, and the switch is far behind both of those and it now looks like a genuine upgrade is at least a couple of years off.

I hope I’m wrong and that we’ve finally reached that point where hardware returns are diminishing and the public are more interested in the games.

good news for those of us who just bought a switch a couple of months ago

£50/$50 more than a standard switch, apparently

I was so ready to buy the upgrade even if it only had a better screen and improved framerate for BOTW, but it doesn’t even have that.
