Not to be confused with 5IVE

Might listen to all of these

Yeah I’m listening to all of them

Liked Chloe Qisha and Maruja, also heard of Xaviersobased but can’t remember if I checked them out or not. No other names I recognised but two out of three ain’t bad, might plug the playlist on shuffle later.

Bambi Thug: some fun to be had here, good production and metal-influenced pop

bib sama: decent electronic with rap-influenced flavor, pretty cohesive package overall

BLACK FONDU: some decent electronic squirty things getting ruined by simply terrible vocals. This could be cool if you put a weighty postpunker on it instead of whiny teen boy

CARI: verbed out drifting r&b artpop, lots of attention to the periphery and I’m pretty into this. Note that this is the black CARI, not the gothy looking white one

Chloe Qisha: borderline interesting pop but enough here that I’d listen to more

Ebbb: I’m not sure if they’re good but they’re trying some ideas

EMEREE: token whistle tones lady, but the musical direction isn’t bad

Folk Bitch Trio: sound like they’re capable of making something more interesting than this track

Glixen: shoegaze with the good sense to fuzz up the vocals and bury them amongst the guitars. Pretty

Hang Linton: arty political collage stuff w/ full spectrum modular synths, not sure how it snuck onto a list like this but I appreciate it

heartcoregirl: low end driven, gaze-adjacent stuff with floaty whisper vocals drizzled on top

Karen Dió: punky stuff, nothing revolutionary but it’s fun and it’s got the attitude to carry

Konyikeh: Cafe sorta r&b, wonderful rich voice on her, and the musical choices work for me

kwn: really nice spacious electro r&b, not trying to do too much

Leonie Biney: delicate singer songwriter with bespoke instrumentation, vaguely like an acoustic Rachel Chinouriri with a lighter touch maybe

LeoStayTrill: rapper doing a good job propelling a spare electronic pulse, track is built well

Maruja: kinda post punk, kinda spoken word, droning low end and a drummer working hard, a saxophone maybe mixed too low, channeling dread

Natanya: a huge mess, kind of in an interesting way

Radio Free Alice: somewhere between post punk and Dunedin maybe, surprisingly light, I think there’s a really nice touch on the music and production that’s a bit let down by the vocalist

ratbag: psych pop with a twee side featuring one member who perhaps listens to too much Kate Bush, maybe it’s trying a bit too hard but it’s creative and I’d hear more from them

Reble: Indian rapper with a good flow, on a wide open electronic track, I’m into it

Slow Fiction: noisy rock stuff, sound like a pack of angsty undergrads but they’ve got enough energy for a listen

Sofia Isella: obviously there’s talent and vision here but I’m finding it currently way overcooked. Keeping an eye out to see where she goes with it

Sunday (1994): this is maybe too conventional dream pop, but it’s pleasant

YHWH Nailgun: some interesting post punk/artrock with a cool palette. Ringing timbales, synth bass yawps, slicing guitar

That’s what stood out to me.

CARI
YHWH Nailgun
Bambi Thug
Glixen
Slow Fiction

As a rough top 5.

Man/Woman/Chainsaw’s EP was great and I reckon they could end up doing good things.

I really like Jessica Winter too. Recognise a few other names but not many.

No shame, I’d be interested in which you don’t know. Thought it was a mostly poppy list in that regards

I realized pretty quick that writing about the ones I didn’t like was a massive waste

DiS is becoming Steve Hoffman lol

Looking forward to coming back to this thread in 2035 to find out if any of them made it.

So 11 tracks I thought were decent. Although I’m not sure I’d bother seeking anything else out by those artists.

Huge waste of time

Saw Ebbb supporting Lost Girls and they very good. Enjoyed the EP from last year, so quietly hopeful they’ve got a good debut album in them.

Oh wow - I have heard one then!? Bambi Thug was that fucking terrible Irish thing, wasn’t it?
