Rolling and skipping into the void of 2025 with noise, industrial and related materials.
Iām pretty new to the whole thing so I hope youāve got some rabbit holes to explore ![]()
Gigs, records, tapes, digi, VHS, art shows, labels, DIY spaces, whatever.
Things Iām excited for so far this year.
Industrial Coast are opening an art, event, workshop space Unit 41 in Middlesbrough in an old shop. First exhibition is photography by Rachel Deakin of loads of IC gigs. Richie Culver will have an exhibition in Feb too.
Theyāve got loads of stuff coming this year. The Rita, Pale World, Ekstasis. Wolf Eyes. Cut Hands. JK Flesh. Crawl of Time. To name a few on sale now. Others on the cards Rainy Miller, Dangsha, Mary Anne Hobbs doing a mentoring session. A rescheduled gig at the Apollo Pavilion in Peterlee that was cancelled due to the storm.
A couple of bits that sound interesting on the way soon.
Pale World - Abstractions of Dead Dreamers | Brachliegen Tapes
The most intense noise act Iāve seen live. People that know better than me say theyāre the best in the UK. This on the ace Brachliegen Tapes looks great. Their sound has a dark ambient thing going on that spills into harsh noise, itās really effective. Jan 17th.
embossed - in essence | embossed
Project from a load of artists who I donāt know much about but the clips sound great. Field recordings made all scuzzy, which Iām a sucker for. New agey vocals and spoken word. Jan 14th.
Last year was a big āgetting into noiseā year for me, so also pretty new to this stuff generally. Would recommend the White Centipede podcast for anyone wanting to learn more about it, get insights into processes etc.
Kind of been into tapes and live videos from what I believe are slightly bigger/more established names: Prurient, Aaron Dilloway, Yellow Swans, Evicshen etc.
Really loving Pedestrian Deposit at the minute:
Loved this little documentary on The Rita too:
Will be jumping in this thread quite a bit I think.
Nice. I just found that podcast I really liked the Richard Rameriz one from a while back and I just watched that doc too! Good find Iām off to see The Rita this year in boro, canāt wait. I saw Evicshen not long ago she was amazing. Iāll check those recommendations out too, great thank you.
@andyvine get in here
pretty sure i was the oldest person in the room when i saw Evicshen a couple of months ago, she was sick as fuck
Nice mix of ages at the boro gig. There are two great lads who are retired that went to over 100 gigs last year all over the north east. Iāve never seen anything like it the creativity, performance and imagination is insane.
Oh I was thinking of this episode of Harsh Truths Podcast which is no longer going unfortunately: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5fpSH8jFuh89DFzZo2Loca?si=aFQ2UZoYQzez4wCh6nMCQg the person who did that podcast has been on white centipede noise as well though https://youtu.be/fNxoWss67b8?si=GtAM6ITd-X9JPnXa
Going to be scouring this thread regularly I think. Also a long time lurker in the heavy thread! See that Brachiegen Tapes have come up already - really loved this Distraxi record from what I thought was last year but now see was actually 2023: Distraxi | Distraxi.
The Monday Night in Middlesborough nights look really great, am envious down south. Weāve had some great gigs down in London recently organised by Shearman/Earworm (including an all-dayer with Pale World and Distraxi on the bill) but canāt see anything on their calendar for the near future
Iāll have to check out that one. I love Brachliegen Tapes Iāve only touched the tip of the iceberg on that label. We should stick link at our favourite labels at some point.
Iāve got a copy of this iād be up for selling if you or anyone wants it
ok i might as well jag my recent album in here
spent the first four years of my sonās life recording him dicking around with whatever and also recording other bits and pieces around him and then i distorted it or stretched it or reversed it and mashed it up with synths and tape loop sample packs and stuff and made this album that im really pleased with. thereās drone, thereās harsh noise, thereās ambient, thereās going to be more. weāre a band, weāre called Trouble Trucks, weāre two silly boys having fun
I love the concept and your family coming together like this. The bumper roller is such a killer machine on moon and me.
hell yeah, my man mr onion just levelling those roads like it aināt no thing ![]()
Straight Panic + Quiet Husband - Measurement and Measures Meant
Now out on digital since the 12ā sold out on Industrial Coast.
Incredible otherworldly dark ambient noisy soundscapes and some spoken word. Partially recorded and completely mixed in a bath house. Two of my favourite artists from last year. Both incredibly prolific and really interesting catalogues.
Coventry and Birmingham are developing some fascinating scenes that span noise, experimental composition and free improvisation. The former cityās just lost the LTB as a venue (although it might open up somewhere else) and Commonground closed at Christmas too, but promoters like Central Committee are making things happen. In Birmingham, Donāt Mind Control is doing some incredible work developing intercity relationships and getting acts into the city; Centrala is the main hub for it, but there are also shows at Muthers.
Thatās great news. It would be great if everyone spread the news of local scenes.
