Oof, a sucker of a result for Torquay in the National League South playoff final. 2-1 up, conceded in the 93rd minute and then again three minutes before the end of extra time. Feel like they’ve been stuck in non league for years.

Gutting for them. We had them at our place final day of the season, they made up at least half the crowd if not more and were really lovely - friendly, very positive about Longmead and well-behaved. Proper chilled festival atmosphere before the 12.30 kick-off despite the crowd being one of the largest we’ve had at Longmead (over 2k).
Genuinely cannot fathom Hornchurch’s awful stadium being in the fifth tier. Madness.

Groundshare at Dagenham? It’s a shocker (the gound - i’ve fully accepted our non leagueness) - not sure how they’re going to cope with the numbers us (Southend) will take if they don’t groundshare.

Very sad news. Watched them twice in 2024 and some of the staff couldn’t have been friendlier.
Does that mean Litherland REMYCA stay up?

It’s been floated a few times as the Midlands League line creeps further and further north. I wasn’t expecting it but it’s not a huge surprise. Easier league and new grounds are the plus points. I’m not sure how many are easy to get to, though. Probably means Ben Elliott will be back to Prescot Cables as cutting down on travel time was his main reason for coming back to West, @AllOfOurShirts
No reprieve for REMYCA so they’ve got the Prem down from 24 teams to 20, which needed to happen.

Hope so, we probably would’ve stayed up if he hadn’t left. Think Ben still finished as top scorer despite only playing half the season (although he did make a cameo on the final day as West’s season had finished and we’d kept his NPL registration).
Oh apparently Stockport County want Stockport Sports Village entirely for themselves, and Town are going to be bought out/merged with Cheadle Town.
Must admit I’ve found West’s response a bit weird. The statement reads a big ‘ach well, nevertheless…’ to me. I don’t know what sort of appeals there are available, but I’d rather they stay in the Counties with a reduced chance of promotion than move. Gut feeling is the board probably want it and are happy to hide behind the governing bodies.
I don’t think they’re happy about it because it’s a much harder to sell to players, but they’ve just seen that kicking up a stink and appealing gets you nowhere, as Congleton, Winsford, Northwich etc learned. As an occasional away game goer, I’d rather stay and keep the nice or near away games at Prestwich, Ramsbottom, Glossop, Chadderton and Abbey Hey.
Some people have a theory that the board don’t want to get promoted because the work needed on the ground to stay in the step above isn’t worth it, when the jump in attendances won’t be huge. If we’re not able to compete for promotion from this league, it definitely will be a sign of neglect. I don’t really think it’s wilful, we just make the same mistakes with managers and recruitment over and over.

So, Bromsgrove were taken over by a consortium about 6 weeks ago (second time in 3 years, and the first lot disappeared as quickly as they’d appeared because…. reasons).
Yesterday, the new regime unveiled a redesigned, ultra-modern club badge, which prompted me to look at the website for the first time since the last game, and lo and behold they’ve also gotten Macron on board as the new kit suppliers, Elonex as a commercial partner, and on the same day as the Step 3 league allocations were announced….not only have we got Rushall among the newbies (taking the local derbies, home and away, to a thoroughly smashing 12), but also Anstey Nomads, which makes me happy, as they have the finest name in the English football pyramid, so I’m looking forward to seeing them in the flesh.
Add all that to Tim Flowers’ interview after the last game against Real Bedford, saying we hadn’t been good enough all season and that preparations for next season were already a week old, and this makes me way more excited than it should a 40-something man in the middle of May. But here we are!
