This is really wonderfully written Pervo :grinning:

Bath City got over their little recent blip with a 3-0 win against Hampton & Richmond which gives a nice bit of momentum going into Saturday’s trip to Tamplin’s house of shite.

Never speak ill of the Muriel again!!!

(Devastated I can’t go to our game at Riccay, as it clashes with my one non negotiable Countdown tournament)

You’re right sorry, it’s the world’s greatest.

Did not realise that the was an Isthmian league team playing by the leisure centre behind my old flat, or so my research tells me. Bowers & Pitsea, no idea if they have any kind of reputation.

They must have been promoted last season! They’ve not been at that level since I’ve been following Tonbridge, so sounds like a plucky underdog story

Won the Essex Senior League 4 years ago and Div One North last season. First year at Step 3. Existed for less time than I have.

Dartford manager left the pitch to “YOU’RE GETTING SACKED IN THE MORNING” by our fans.

Decided to banter us off by resigning tonight. Fuming.

Tbh, I had no idea they existed until last weekend when there was Sky Sports News on in the backgroind and I saw the name on the Isthmian results scrolling though.

I’ll try make it over some time, also if R ever gets interested enough to watch football it might be a good place to take him because if he gets bored then my aunt lives two minute’s walk away, rather than taking him to any of the league club options where extraction would be considerably more difficult.

Bowers & Pitsea did indeed go up last season. One of those sides whose rise from county football has been relatively meteoric. Haven’t been there, but games at that level are definitely good for kids if you need a quick out.

Got along to my first two league games of the season.

Darlington on Saturday: thought they played some good football, were unlucky not to get a goal before halftime but we came out stronger in the second half. Two cleanly taken goals from Chris Henderson and a clean sheet. Strong and good-natured travelling support from Darlo, who probably don’t deserve to be where they are in the table.

Alfreton last night - went 2-0 up within the first half-hour - again, two very well-taken goals. At half time, Alfreton abandoned all attempts to play good football and adopted an ultra physical, ugly, bad-tempered game. Managed to get one of our players sent off with some hammy theatrics, and got a scrappy goal back. Still, Adam Marriott scored a screamer to make it 3-1, and even a bundled injury time goal couldn’t keep us from winning 3-2.

Turns out we’re now top of the league! Though I can’t see that lasting. Excellent start to the season, though.

Still reeling from our game on Saturday, played some lovely stuff yet failed to take our chances when 2-1 up to put the game to bed (and when I say chances, I mean absolute gilt-edged sitters) only to concede an equaliser on 94 minutes to a speculative shot that squirmed underneath our goalkeeper.

Pfft.

One win in six. Equally one defeat in six.

Dartford are putting as “mutual consent” this morning! I watched them beat Woking last season and there were a sniff that they may be one of those chancers who makes a late run for the play-offs - made it badly it went wrong in such a short space of time. Apparently Steve King has been sniffing around in recent weeks as well.

RIP Dartford FC

Was about to say the exact same thing.

The beer industry is going to collapse next month

Carshalton have turned it around ahead of FA Cup action this weekend - four wins on the spin now and two consecutive clean sheets!

2-0 up at half-time at Bognor Regis last weekend and the hosts subbed their poor goalkeeper at the start of the second-half, not injured or anything. Kicked off a bit on Twitter between some of their players and fans that evening too!

Away to Bracknell Town tomorrow - they are doing OK in the Isthmian South Central so should be a competitive match - I’ll dust off the tin foil cardboard trophy, our name is on the cup!

Saw the actual genuine trophy today as it goes.

Got the right coloured ribbons on for the Robins.

Indeed, clash of the Robins tomorrow!

Sorry if this has already been discussed, I can’t remember. Is anyone’s clubs here making progress in reducing plastic use?

West Didsbury & Chorlton had a big blog post explaining the options and potential issues. Currently most booze is poured from glass into single use plastics to be taken outside. They stock some cans from a local brewery but all cheaper lager is bottled. They basically can’t afford to get reusable plastic, either in the initial outlay or the manpower to collect and wash them. Getting kegs on risks huge losses and wastage between games so I don’t think that’s feasible either.

The obvious solution seems to be cans of lager, and everyone that replied on Twitter was keen for that. The blog post said some people were really against that because they wanted bottles for consumption in the clubhouse after games, but hopefully once the current stock of plastic is used up, they’ll trial having both and see how much quicker on the bar and popular cans are.

It’s not something we’ve look into at Hendon or, I imagine, even thought about. That said, it’s definitely something I think we should be considering, maybe go towards something akin to what they do at the Oval (and probably other cricket grounds) in that you pay £1 for a reusable plastic which you then get back when you hand it in at the end of the afternoon / evening.

Food for thought there.

Yeah, a deposit scheme was suggested but it’s probably less appealing for football games than all day cricket games or festivals, and explaining it to away fans every week would be a pain.
