The number of bands I’ve seen do break-up tours and special merch who then get back together and do reunion tours and special merch only a few years later suggests this is definitely a thing
I’m somehow on the Minus the Bear mailing list and it felt like it was only a few weeks after they finished sending me emails about their honest-to-god last ever tour (plus the t-shirts plus the limited edition vinyl) that I started getting emails about the reunion tour. This is a band where all the members have other bands already, just be honest and say you’re taking a break
I dunno they really had “something” on the first two and live a lot of their peers didn’t. A break in the 10s and the listening populace would have been mad eager for some more Bloccy P right about now I think
TBF that new Strokes song would be pretty fucking solid if Julian didn’t decide that taking inspiration from the God awful Voidz record that game out fairly recently and slather his vocals in that auto tune. GHASTLY
More bands should use the Blue Nile model. Four albums spread out sporadically, barely ever touring, and never announcing that they’ve split, despite the fact their last album was in 2004. Wikipedia still has their page in the present tense.
Probably should be a running list of bands that kept their promise have said they were no longer active and stayed inactive at least until a band members death, bands that just stop and don’t announce it don’t count cause there is always hope (Boards of Canada). Cocteau Twins don’t count cause my understanding is they got as far as rehearsing for Coachella.
