£165k a year does sound pretty tasty

Lallana out for ‘a couple of months’. Adjust your fantasy teams accordingly…

This is the exact ranking tbh. Absolutely ridiculous that Spain has produced so many incredible footballers in that position in one generation

Would argue that Thiago is currently amongst the best in the world in that position, too. Probably 2nd behind Modric (and potentially #1 if he bloody played for Barca)

fucking hell forgot about Thiago, above Mata for sure

Barca front 3s over the years. I still think that Messi/Villa/Pedro in 2011 one wasn’t far behind M/S/N. Busquets,Xavi,Iniesta at their peak too. Probably their strongest side in hindsight - didn’t have the revolutionary impact of the 2009 treble, or the sheer attacking savagery of 2015, but probably the most balanced. So many different players that’ll go down in history peaking at the same time.

Villa should have moved to a bigger club earlier in his career

He said he’d dreamed of playing for New York City ever since he was a child.

yeah, the 2011 team of

Valdes

Alves
Pique
Puyol/Masch
Abidal

Busquets
Xavi
Iniesta

Pedro
Messi
Villa

is still fairly comfortably the best team I’ve ever seen. Obviously the champions league final was amazing but this was the crowning moment innit

+messi having one of the best games of his career without scoring a goal is a fairly good example of why he’s comfortably the best player of his generation

Those two finals where they absolutely soiled United were an absolute delight. United actually played okay for the first four minutes in Rome, but the Wembley one, christ, they might as well have sent the Dog and Duck. Lovely stuff.

And we were still comfortably the second best team on the planet at the time as well

I don’t think this is true (of the second one, at least)

Three Champions League finals in four seasons was no fluke.

I think Real Madrid were a better team than manchester united in the 2010/11 season

Aye, watching that game AT PRIMAVERA was not one of the highlights of my sports-watching life. (Other than finding a Catalan paper that called Scholes and Giggs ‘mes que footballistas’).

when lionel messi was asked how it felt to be the best player at the 2011 champions league final etc.

I feel like the appreciation of the people of Catalonia is the real quiz, here.

Watched that final at the Arc de Triomf with loads of Barca fans after a day at Primavera, seeing John Cale perform Paris 1919 in full. Got very drunk, back to the festival, saw whoever (odd future maybe?)

Probably one of the best days of my life tbh. Just made my flight back to London, remember waking my friend up after no sleep and rewatching highlights - Busquets and Messi were absolutely perfect
