Whatās the deal with Matic then Chelsea friends? Gone off the boil a bit? Kante made him a bit redundant? Always thought he was one of the best in that DM role but if youāre letting him go there must be a reason?
Had a great debut season, an absolute shocker of a second (as did most of them) and a quietly impressive third.
Guess they just canāt really believe another club would pay in excess of Ā£40m for a defensive midfielder just about to turn 29. How old is the (cheaperā¦better?) player theyāre bringing in?

Yeah, itās a weird one our end, a position we definitely need a top class player in and a top class player available in that position makes sense but Iād prefer to be looking a lot longer term with it for sure.
In the short term, though, heās probably perfect for what Mourinho wants, especially in the big games, just a very basic, conservative base. Didnāt really have the players to pull it off properly last season. Assume heāll invest in a top quality left wing-back in order to fully maximise his Herrera, Matic, Fellaini dream midfield.

Aye. Itās what makes it make more sense than trying to find the next good one, we desparately need a player in his mould to get the best out of our other (younger, better) players so it makes sense to just get him if heās available innit.
Weirdly quiet on talk of a LB, would be astonished if we donāt get one in but thereās literally no talk of anyone beyond Perisic (!) and a striker at the minute.
Shaw is Englandās best let back. I genuinely donāt know what youāve done to him.
If he can sort his head out and stay fit heās got every chance to be. As it stands heās behind Rose and Bertrand for sure.
Interested in what you think heās done at any level to be deemed better than Roseā¦

Guess he might go with darmian as first choice with blind backup and bring in shaw, rojo and young when theyāre not crippled.

Weird one. Lots of unreliable sources saying weāre closing in on Matic, more reliable ones saying weāve bid for Fabinho, whoās said he wants to join. Given their ages, opting for Matic would seem mental.
Not so worried about the left back position. Genuinely believe Shaw and/or Darmian can do a job and I think Mourinho might do too. More worried about the horrendous lack of goals in the team, which wonāt be sorted out by signing Morata and Perisic, even if a solid DM and ball playing CB should free up our attacking players a bit.

Not so sure about that, heās very good.
Think a DM allows us to get the best out of Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Martial, Rashford, Mata etc which has all the potential for goals galore as well.

He is. But can surely only be expected to replace Zlatanās contribution, leaving us short (Rooney was our second most productive player and he was barely on the pitch ffs).
Re: the DM freeing those players up, I agree to an extent, but we were creating a lot of chances last season and those lads were continuously fluffing their lines. Iām not convinced theyāre going to all start banging them in.
Confidence as much as anything innit, not much you can do to address that in terms of personnel. Just got to hope we hit the ground running and build some proper momentum innit, I still maintain weāre not far away from being a very good side.
