Pretty much exactly the same as what Gove was saying back in 2016 too to be honest (although swap ‘political’ forecasts for ‘economic’ ones iirc)

This really needs to banged home again and again. Trying to appear ‘tough’ on immigration does nothing but stoke the far right, rather than win the argument with them you justify and validate their xenophobia. It’s bonkers to me that the Sensibles still think this is the way to go about it after the experience of Obama and NL.

Obviously Gove’s a cunt but I think he was speaking to something more profound about modern politics than he’s given credit for there. Similar to Rumsfeld’s ‘Known Knowns’ effort.

Didn’t see this the other day, actually caught it on US news on my feed.

At least 1 in every 200 people in the UK is now homeless. That is an utter disgrace.

I can’t wait till someone counters this with "I know more than 200 people and none of them are homeless" or some other ridiculous shite along a similar vein.

Also, this is disgusting!

Like my former colleague who was a senior associate in a patent twat firm saying “I don’t understand what they mean by a housing crisis. None of my friends don’t have anywhere to live.”

Beyond belief that these people exist, but they do. Tories.

Yeah, it’s the same type of people that think the answer to unemployment is to just go and get a job, roll up your sleeves work hard and think that foodbanks are used by people who just want a free scran.

Tories.

That’s a city nearly the size of Cardiff. That is abhorrent.

Harry Leslie Smith died :frowning:

Oh. That’s really sad :frowning:

So sad this. Amazing guy, standing up for refugees and marginalised people right up to the age of 95 :rose:

He reminded us that the WW2 generation aren’t long for this world, and that anyone who was actually there really doesn’t want to go back to it

gutted about this :frowning:

So sad, reportedly he was telling those treating them that he wasn’t ready to go as he had “too much to do” :frowning:

I’ve been following developments on Twitter and, although this may sound a bit insensitive given the circumstances, his son taking over his Twitter handle has been quite uncomfortable. He’s very much turned the focus onto himself, and obviously I realise that he’s grieving and there’s no “correct” response, but using his father’s twitter account doesn’t seem like the most appropriate avenue.

Very similar graphs have been produced by the OBS and/or IFS after every single budget since June 2010. Sad as it is to say, I don’t believe this is going to get any more attention than it did back then :frowning:
