49/100 for me. Very very happy to see The Florida Project where it is, Lady Bird is waaay too high up

I actually really liked Ladybird bit bemused to see The Social Network that high though.

The Social Network is fucking amazing, would easily be in my top 5 of the decade

I want to rewatch it as I’m the same, really like Fincher and have seen all of his but that one didn’t stand out as even one of his best, nevermind compared to other films beyond his work.

I did really like Lady Bird too! It’s great. I just feel like for some reason I can’t get, it’s been chosen as ā€œThe Oneā€ high school teen drama type thing to get taken really seriously and treated with respect and lavished with praise. It’s not that it doesn’t earn it, I just think a good handful of other films do that thing just as well or better and they consistently get overlooked. It’s been my Thing for a while now to be annoyed by this hah - and to finish my bit off, where was Edge of Seventeen!

thank you for bigging up this film

it’s fantastic

I should really watch it again to make sure it’s worth all the words I’ve put behind it  Maybe a Christmas plan

nah, it’s great

I wish teen movies had been this sincere when I was a teenager (though tbf I probably wouldn’t have watched them).

I suppose we had Superbad

annoying when the internet is all like ā€œomg the ending explainedā€ articles as if there’s some thing that’s going to happen at the end and then i got round to watching the film and i’m expecting some MOMENT and it never happens because theres nothing to explain its just films have stories and thats what happens in the story and everyone understandss ss s

anyway . midsommer’s pretty good i’m into maypoles may queens and garlands anyway so it’s my kind of thing.

Just going to say can we hold off on doing any Best Film of the Year thread until after Boxing Day this year because that’s when Little Women is out (I’ve heard it’s good!)

Plus CATS on December 20!

Good list - makes me feel less out of touch than I am. Still yet to see Fury Road…

Still no second trailer though…

Today, apparently.

which other ones would you like to see on there?

Good list! Still 11 I need to see.

Yas Spider-Verse

60/100 on that one. Green Room has been so overrated on both of those lists (The Master too but that’s a different story)

So irked by a big chunk of the internet’s need for everything to fit in sort of conventional boxes where narrative is concerned; like that niche YouTube series I nerd out about all the time: Petscop. It ended (more or less) this year telling a compelling and ambiguous story, and there’s a bunch of half-punctured beanbag academics who read the Amazon preview of a hacky screenplay manual going on about how its not a ā€œsatisfyingā€ ending as if ambiguity, mystery, prioritising other aspects over plot is some kind of mistake

Just get into the film, man
