Tootsie (rewatch)

Still fantastic, obviously. Typical that the Academy could have chosen this or E.T. and went for Gandhi instead. I’ve often thought the Academy should have an award for the best person who has only one line in a film (e.g. ‘Rick, it’s a flamethrower’ in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood this year), and they should name the award after the guy who said ‘How do you feel about Cleveland?’ in Tootsie.

Shocking news, shocking

Although apparently it will generate “stockings worth of memes”, so, you know

really wanna read a spoilered review now

can’t find one but I can find one that says it takes the lyrics literally, so it’s pretty easy to work out what the twist is

is a stocking’s worth a lot of memes

doesn’t sound like that many memes

Well memes are digital and thus have no weight, but can be stored on physical storage such as flash drives. You can fit many hundreds of standard jpeg files on a single flash drive, and even a small stocking could hold a large number of flash drives.

In conclusion, this film is going to make loads of cash despite being terrible, also memes

wisest choice

all reviews should now be based on how memeable a film is

Trying to decide if Love Actually would have ended up better or worse if it were written solely to generate memes

Better, we might have lost that dreadful September 11th stuff at the start at least

Honeyland

Absolutely exquisite glimpse of rural life in North Macedonia. Loved the very simply yet affecting dual storylines of family and eeking out a living set to the backdrop of abject poverty. Cinematography was beautifully expansive and the performances were perfectly understated.

Wonderful little film. Deserves all of the plaudits and awards it has receieved.

Got half way in to Booksmart and it’s all over the place innit. Might not even go back and watch the rest even though there’s a nice relatively-original vibe to it and all the performances are good. It seemed to get derailed real early on with a bizzare subplot about a bad party on a boat. Not sure what the heck was going on there.

There’s been way too many of these high school geek girl movies; there must have been 20 in the last few years, this one mostly reminds me of Edge Of Seventeen so far.

That family that moves in and ruins everything are the most villainous of all 2019 film villains
