Fingers crossed he’s able to play again

Wouldnt be surprised if he couldn’t, even with a full recovery, the risks might be too great. that’s what happened to Ryan Mason.

Yeah I don’t want to speculate too much but Mason was my first thought

Yeah that’s what I thought of

Surely something has to be done regarding Arsenal letting Luiz play on as well

Do they not give players cultural sensitivity training? Obviously, while I get it isn’t offensive in Latin America, it’s still always weird to refer to someone by their colour or race to me, even in an endearing way. At any other multicultural workplace, it would still be considered thoughtless and offensive. Regardless, I think Cavani will/should be banned because the FA can’t get into what uses of language are/aren’t offensive and still be considered to be zero tolerance.

It seems the FA standardised this sort of thing as a three match ban at the start of this season. That way they don’t have to argue the cultural differences in various parts of the world. Cavani didn’t mean anything by it, but them’s the rules.

Which seems fair enough to me. Should be up to the clubs to train them to act appropriately, and until they do, players will keep getting banned. Eventually it won’t happen anymore/will happen very rarely :man_shrugging:

similar to bernardo silva last season isnt it?

I saw that too and thought it was weird, was guessing they meant dark features. Don’t think he’d be considered white in the UK but clearly isn’t black either

Think in general in Latin America there’s less race consciousness because people are more ethnically mixed so non-white people are less of a distinct ‘other’ category than in the UK, racial boundaries are more blurred. Also means there’s less public discussion about what terminology is acceptable etc. even though structural racism is still a huge factor in people’s lives

*obv it’s a big continent and this is a broad generalisation

If they’ve followed the FA protocol about concussion and were happy he wasn’t concussed, then it’s the call of the medics and the player.

They can make the protocol stricter, or require severe head clashes like yesterday to be an automatic free substitution, but that has to come from the FA/FIFA, and it probably isn’t a perfect solution either.

I think the medics have a large amount of professional responsibility too, if they think the protocol isn’t strict enough or situation demands it they should be overruling it and erring on the side of caution, before waiting for the FA to get their act together…

Using a term of endearment/nickname that translates badly is isn’t as bad as comparing someone to a racist '70s caricature.

Definitely, but I’m not sure they would think that yesterday they got it wrong with Luiz. Similar with Vertoghen at Spurs a few years ago when he fainted.

I imagine Luiz will get a medical exam today. You’re right in that if they do think he’s got a concussion and he passed the test yesterday that they follow up with the FA about this.

maybe not but i don’t want to get into hierarchies

Gary Lineker’s 60???

Thought he was in his 40’s
