Ok I looked it up and yeah winning your league of nations group ensures you get to the playoffs at least and then rest depends on how actual qualification goes.

This is the current standings, the only thing left to play for tonight is between who finishes 3rd out of Wales and Slovakia:

And given the groups are based on rankings, it basically it ensures there is at least one tiny team to qualify via group D ( Georgia , North Macedonia , Kosovo , Belarus)

Scotland in Group C have Norway, Serbia and one of Bulgaria/Israel/Romania* who will get drawn out into groups, but its irrelevant cuz surely Serbia should be walking our group regardless of who’s in it.

So Ireland get to play Denmark again?

I didn’t realise Ireland qualify for these playoff because they finished last in their nations league group

I thought we didn’t either! Was very surprised when it came up loads last night.

I believe we can’t get Romania because we’re both hosts or something like that, so they’ll get promoted into Group A, so it’s Bulgaria or Israel (or Hungary if Wales beat them tonight) - Norway & Serbia have already been drawn in one semi

So if Scotland qualify (stop laughing) they end up in England’s group don’t they?

yeah, but the game’ll be at Wembley

Can’t tell if wolfcastle but It’s because you finished 3rd in your qualifying group?

As convoluted as this qualifying process is I don’t think they’ve got that far with it yet

Genuinely thought we were out! Who the fuck knows with this utterly nonsensical qualifying format tbh.

it’s not actually, the rankings are based entirely on the Nations League from last year, the performance in this group stage (beyond the first two in each qualifying) doesn’t count for anything. It’s just because enough teams from Leagues 1 & 2 qualified automatically meant that all the others from those leagues definitely got a play-off space.

Oh lol

Was about to say it’s not that bad until I just got corrected

I might be foolish trusting Wikipedia but it looks like they have, Denmark and Russia are already in the same group for instance

yeah, every group’s been assigned two hosts - if those countries qualify they automatically get allocated to those groups, and Scotland & England are sharing a group

Oh fuck

I’m sure Denmark vs Russia in the euros group stage has happened almost as much as Denmark reland, probably just saving themselves the bother of lifting the balls out of the bag.

Wtf is going on now, surely Scotland can’t qualify for this?

If they beat mystery team and then Serbia or Norway, they will!

(narrator: they will mess it up in the most Scotland way possible)
