I know this is sort of wolfcastle but I bet Jeremy’s a genuine VAR-phobe

I really hope so.

Referendum on VAR would be a total labour vote winner.

Williamson has resigned his Labour membership, fucking excellent. Honestly, Alun Cairns out, Tom Watson out, Chris Williamson out, more Wednesdays should be like this.

Yeah, but the likes of Mandelson and Campbell have been able to shape the media narrative and brief the press on the inner workings of the PLP without being MPs either.

Don’t forget all the data he harvested through his ‘opinion polls’ too.

Not quite. The NEC chose not to put Chris Williamson forward as the constituent’s Labour candidate. Chris Williamson has instead chosen to run as an independent as will be taking votes from Labour in a seat where we currently only have a 2500 majority.

This is a very salient point, and I’m grateful for the deeper insight - it’s too easy to look at this sort of thing and see an easy win. I’m still glad he feels the party isn’t a fertile ground for his toxic views.

my mind is so under-stimulated at the moment, its scary.

Don’t normally post on the politics thread, despite my large collection of goo spoons and array of Simpson’s memes. Finally got round to joining the Labour Party last month and went to my first campaign meeting tonight. Decent turn out and very positive atmosphere. Becky Cooper is the Worthing West candidate again, which is great news. She had to fight off the challenge of three other potential candidates all based outside of Worthing, which is unheard of for a Labour candidate in such a traditionally safe Tory seat. The times are changing here! I’m going to help with flyers (prob at the five train stations in the ward) and posting door to door. Try to work up to canvassing doors nearer to election date when I’m more confident in myself to do so.

Anyway I think we’ll all agree that only the Lib Dems can win Worthing West from here…

dunno why you bothered turning up to the meeting - no chance of labour taking this off the lib dems.

Mandelson and Campbell are two of the most disliked men in Britain, when they’re thought about at all. It’s very hard to measure these things but I do wonder what kind of tangible impact they have on things, aside from full pant shitting moments like Campbell’s suspension (and even then, what’s the longterm upshot? Probably sod all). Of course they’ll always be a receptive media for people to talk shit about left politics and politicians, but I just don’t think it’s going to be a major driver during this campaign.

A self serving sociopath to make them slightly richer and get rid of all the (usually brown) people they blame for ruining the country.

I know right, I’m already working on my “don’t blame me, I voted for Jay Swændon” meme already :man_shrugging:t2::wink:

are there polls by constituency available or is that highly illegal?

YouGov did that constituency poll before 2017 which showed Labour taking Canterbury and forcing a hung parliament iirc. Way closer than anyone else to the end result (so I’m quite anxious that they’re showing a huge Tory lead ATM)

Didn’t they suppress that one as an outlier though?

It was only survation (iirc) who released anything close to a hung parliament
