Conventional wisdom is 6% is borderline between a majority and a hung parliament, both for Labour and the Tories. There’s a large fudge factor in that that doesn’t account for regional or constituency level differences though.

Ahem.

On a scale of 1 to 10 - how much of a bastard am I for already thinking and cursing that terror incidents like this lead to boosts in support for the right?

You aren’t at all. The people on Twitter calling it a false flag are 10s though.

Happy to stand corrected, but as far as I remember Labour caught the mood of the nation best when the 2017 campaign was interrupted by the Manchester suicide bombing and the government were caught on the back foot as their reactionary lines didn’t land.

Not saying that will happen this time around, but I think it’s wrong to suggest that terrorism inevitably pushes the people to the right.

different situation though

the public feeling was grief and sympathy for the victims and resentment at the right trying to make political capital out of it - especially in the face of Police cuts

here the victim & the assailant are one and the same so the narrative will be one of the police restoring order

no idea how/if it will play out

sad to say but it will probably be seen as quite a minor incident in a day or two

Yes, that’s what I said.

I’m simply taking on the assertion that attacks inevitably push people to the right.

Don’t forget how Corbs loves terrorists. Hopefully Labour prepared for something like this, or at least manage to think on their feet.

I don’t think it’s a big enough thing to make much of an impact either way. Particularly if it does turn out to be a de Menezes-shaped thing where the police shot a guy who was just lying there. Pointless and vulgar to speculate at this stage

THAR SHE BLOWS!

Stood in for Corbyn? Sure. #actualopposition

Hopkins is on the Tweetman list, please don’t spread her toxic spores around the internet even just to make fun of her. In a just universe she would be hell-banned from existence.

Wow, only made it part way through that thread. Lots of horrible stuff in there, embarrassing/shameful for the forum.

I don’t understand what the idea is behind shutting down a conversation that was actually probing at the issue. Surely there is no better place to have that discussion than right there, or do we need a dedicated civil society and ethics board? The rapid descent into the personal and patronising was pretty damn disjeartening

And guess who’s coming over here soon to say it.
