In the US, producers adhere to a “Defects Levels Handbook,” which sets out the maximum number of foreign bodies like maggots, insect fragments and mould that can be in food products before they are put on the market.

For example, US producers are allowed to include up to 30 insect fragments in a 100g jar of peanut butter; as well as 11 rodent hairs in a 25g container of paprika; or 3mg of mammalian excreta (typically rat or mouse excrement) per each pound of ginger.

It’s dead cat on the table stuff isn’t it? Part “I’m a rotten bastard and I know these comments will resonate with my base” and part “we have to get people to stop asking about this shelved Russia investigation”

Yes to both of these.

The US sets limits beyond which the FDA will guarantee taking action. The UK/EU do not.

In both the EU and the US standards agencies aim to enforce best practice to reduce contaminants to the minimum level possible - i.e. if you don’t meet the limits listed in the FDA’s handbook, they still may take action against you over there.

Easy example - if you look closely at supermarket dried pasta sold over here, you’ll see lots of little dark bits. They’re contaminants. Often rat poo or similar.

So it’s misleading, for sure. It is however also true.

Is Hoogy sick or summat?

I dunno, but I’m enjoying filling in

Considering they’re total shitheads it’s impossible to tell when the Tories are saying horrible shit deliberately as a distraction and when they’re just being their natural shithead selves so I guess it’s all the same thing in the end

so they’re really good at enforcing food hygiene safety stuff, but if you go into a supermarket, you’ll see rat shit in the pasta?

100% and it gives me the rage at how normalised it’s all become. Need these rats out asap.

Pretty much.

Not sure if you’re talking about the Tories or the Pasta/Paprika rats.

Haha, a pure coincidence as I’ve totally missed the paprika/rats chat, whatever that may be.

Wait so is EU food more likely to be contaminated with rat shit and hairs than the US?

No. They’re both about as likely as each other.

Beating the Lib Dems at their own game

Catching up on the stuff from yesterday - what an embarrassing shower of shite.

Dragging him to the chair, all japes and jolly good fun, a whole day of circle jerking shite, no one got any proper work done.

The guy himself I’m completely unimpressed with, he seems like a competition winner, say what you like about Bercow but he was authoratitive and didn’t take a lot of shit.

Can Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland and England all make themselves independent and sack off Westminster completely, its so unrepresentative of its populace its insulting.

No small print though. Totally untrustworthy

Am I letting day-to-day Tory cuntery blind me or are Mogg’s Grenfell comments calculated to turn attention away from the Russia report?

Yes.

But he’s also just a cunt.
