Youve heard of this ‘occupy’ thing bit cant define kulak? Oh come on.

My apologies, I was more familiar with the Azerbaijani rendering of the word.

Was watching this decent political drama called Total Control here and it made me think of (maybe) one thing we have right in the UK, namely that our MPs don’t have a title of any sort really (Right Honourable but even then…).

In the show the main character introduces herself as Senator Alex Irving and the term results in a level of respect. Made me think of AOC grilling the likes of Zuckerberg and him saying, “Congresswoman…”.

Basically it feels like when you have senators and congressmen/women you inadvertently give a person a position of importance and respect, whereas being an MP marks you out as having importance but you’re referred to in the same way as any other person on the street when talking to them.

Except that MPs can’t refer to each other by name in the commons.

Sure but I am talking about outside of Parliament, in the way the public interacts with them.

… crikey. Between this and most of the other male shitebags they’ve got in the cabinet, I wonder how many votes the tories will lose from women? Not sure if there has been a poll for that yet.

Watching it on iPlayer an hour behind, and they’ve got Gavin Barwell sat there next to the person who won his seat. Lovely stuff.

Also, has Newsnight got kinda good again?

Feels like they went to a particular effort to not mention that he’s a Tory.

It’s not in the headline, where he’s “Reading MP candidate”.

It’s not in the first para, where he’s “A man running to be an MP in Reading”.

Hmmm.

good for her. what has happened to him so far is nothing less than a disgrace. anyone who thinks this was ever about the assault allegations is a fucking pathetic mark and they should give it up to the wallet inspector.

here you go, I believe that’s all in order.

the entire case has been railroaded by the US justice department who have taken control of the UK courts dealing with the case, and all the authorities involved have been protecting a global child trafficking operation for at least 20 years, so they can all fuck off and die, tbh.

I absolutely allow for the fact that obvious complete piece of shit Assange assaulted someone and they wanted justice and that it was highly convenient for the US administration.

Also fully agree that being a piece of shit like he is doesn’t mean he should be extradited to the US to face some kind of fucked up kangaroo court for running a website that revealed what a huge criminal enterprise their government was.

Not gonna get two far into this but (a) wikileaks were actively helping the Trump campaign, no? So I’m really not sure I buy that he’s at huge risk and (b) there’s a history of the UK left being far too kind to absolute shitbags just because they position themselves as being anti the US (eg George Galloway) and it’s always made me very very uncomfortable.

Never switch on the telly in the morning really but I was up, stuck on bbc breakfast and there was farage being ‘grilled’ by some no-mark presenter. Day ruined.

I imagine the headline thing is because they have such strict headline lengths, but yeah idk about the first para.
