Johnson labelled MPs in the NRG his ā€œpraetorian guardā€

To protect him from what? Northerners? Scotland? Anyone north of the Home Counties? :grimacing: I really hope this prick is in charge when the independence referendum happens. I want him to be remembered in history as the Tory who broke up the UK.

At the rate things are going there’s an increasing chance he may not even be in charge for Brexit.

Obviously the wing of the Tories who still have reality in sight are probably keen to hang that round his neck, but the more deranged end could do anything over the Cummings bust up.

The Praetorian Guard were a bunch of thugs that originally were used by the Roman emperors to enforce their rule but ultimately became the de facto rulers themselves because they could just knife any emperor that displeased them. Interesting Johnson would reach for that analogy

He just likes the sound of Latin and Greek, his grasp of the actual meaning of any of the allusions he likes to choose often escapes him (see Rory Stewart’s bit about Boris and Pericles and BJ’s complete and utter missing of the fucking point)

Also, your summary is basically just a neat way of describing the Conservative Parliamentary Party, now and ever thus

Though maybe he’s thinking of the PG from WH40K
