stay away from my villa

thewarn senior often visits for an ale and a hot tub

he would NOT be interested in a hot tub. Ale and motorbikes though, that would work.

all my life there’s only been shitty warehouse or warehouse adjacent office work around here so I doubt anybody’s minds will be changed

Corby’s in the ‘magic triangle’ though isn’t it? Lol, magic triangle, the magic of centralised distribution.

dunno what that is but I don’t drive so can’t really get to Corby often anyway

Wait a second sorry I’ve got my wires crossed, you don’t live there!

I’ve been there a few times and it is a place of dreams tbf

Hey now there’s been farms

don’t think you can work on farms unless you are related to the people who own them though

i looked into it after my job was cancelled during lockdown 1 - you can, but it basically involves prison like conditions where you can’t leave the compound, less than minimum wage, and 10+ hour days of backbreaking hard labour.

You’ve been there 3 times in the last few years. I know this as that’s how many times I made my "pressing issues to sort " joke.

They were advertising it as a thing for folk on furlough, etc to go and do as an alternative to lockdown earlier in the year?

Reckon a few folk who thought it’d be jolly good fun picking a few strawberries in the sunshine had a bit of an eye-opener.

Suppose people will be getting conscripted for it next year instead.

I remember that the FAQs on the Pick For Britain website were quite eye-opening - I’m paraphrasing, but along the lines of:

  • How much will I be paid? - You will be paid at least minimum wage for every hour you actually work.

  • What hours will I work? - This depends on the weather, but most farms start early in the morning and work late into the afternoon.

  • Can I commute to the farm? - You might be able to, but most farm workers are required to live on site due to the early starts.

  • How do I socially distance in a caravan? - Your co-workers will form your bubble like any other hoursehold so you won’t have to socially isolate. However, you will not be able to return to another bubble/your family home as a result.

I reckon we’ve found the answer to my ‘what does Britain’s economy look like post-Brexit’ question
