First 14 - My picks: Then Jericho - Big Area (great pop song); Morrissey - Last of the famous; Style Council - Promised Land; Inner City - Good Life; Neneh Cherry - Buffalo Stance; Simple Minds - Belfast Child (I do prefer early Simple Minds but still like this); and Fine Young Cannibals - She drives me crazy (can’t work out what I think of this song…its public property but more thumbs up than down on balance)

Last 21 - My picks: Crowded House - Weather with you; The Cure - High. It did have JAMC on too but I was too young at the time to get it

*I’ve bought my son a fair few recent ones; there is a lot of X (featuring Y) and not much for ageing me to hang my hat on.

Now confession. The appearance of Paranoid Android on a Now record is what got a 15 year old me into Radiohead. Another got me into REM with Kenneth (though I had heard a few songs by them before, was just too young to really go for it). I distinctly remember Kenneth being the song that turned me from pop to rock.
