They were good for me at about 12,13 ish as you could cover a lot of musical ground on pocket money as well as get the stuff you loved but thought wasn’t very cool (hello, OMC) then when I was 14 Urban Hymns and OK Computer came out and I became an albums bore.

I remember my sister getting Now 1 for christmas. Just looked at the track listing. Some belters on there. She may still have it somewhere. First one I remember owning was 13.

They going to end it now, right?

Very fond memories of some of these, but it is slightly bewildering that they still exist. Surely everyone’s streaming these days (especially the target market), so that’s the obvious place to get ‘all the hits in one place’.

My aunt got me a NOW double cassette thing for a birthday present when I was thirteen. Couldn’t tell you which one or what was on it because after one listen I decided to put celotape over the copy protectors and tape ned’s atomic dustbin’s second album on one and a carter usm album on the other one.

Now 98 is ‘double platinum’ so has sold over 600,000 copies. Insane really.

Now 25 was my first and only. Got if for Living On My Own by Freddie Mercury and iirc River of Dreams by Billy Joel.

Can’t check right now but presumably a lot of these are on Spotify in the form of playlists?

I’ve got 1 & 2 on vinyl. You know being old and all that.

(the answer to the question is “2” I think)

Might see if these are in my parents loft or garage - I think they probably got rid of them when they moved house though. I wouldn’t mind taking a look for nostalgia purposes, interesting to think about which tracks I liked at the time and which I’d like now.

did think about listening to the new ones essentially to be an embarrassing Uncle and try and understand what my niece and nephew were into - was slight bemused that my 11 year old nephew likes Sia but hates Madonna (great 11 year old randomness).

I’ve discovered that 11/12yo tastes are largely governed by what the school playground deems is acceptable and are incredibly fickle.

first CD i bought i think

Just had a look at the Now 10 track listing. I would have chosen different Johnny Hates Jazz and Wet Wet Wet songs and no Terence Trent D’arby is a massive oversight.

I was kind of amazed he had heard of Madonna tbh.

Despite all the weird unwanted presents from distant relatives in the 80s I never once owned one of these.

Like how the cover has a nod to the sunglasses pig on it - esp as the only one I ever had was Now 3, which introduced him/her

A round of applause to you, Sir. Can’t think of a better couple of bands to have taped

My brother had the ‘Now’ compilations, I had the ‘Hits’ ones, which were a side-by-side double cassette, rather than the chunky double decker type.

Was quite a good way of discovering new music tbf. Sign of the Times blew my tiny mind
