We have threads for Connections, Wordle, Mini Crossword… anyone do the regular Daily one?
You do need a subscription for it so this will be less popular, and I know a lot of people find American-style clueing infuriating. But for someone like me who finds regular G2 crosswords too boring and traditional cryptic crosswords too hard, they hit a real sweet spot.
Thursday is probably my favourite day for NYT crosswords cause it’s usually tricksy. This morning’s took me 35 mins, really struggled with it until I worked out the theme and then it managed to fall into place.
Ah. I wasn’t aware of that call for a boycott specifically.
One initial reaction I have is to query why you didn’t post this in any of the other NYT games threads we have, but that’s a defensive reaction. One difference I suppose is that you can access most of those other games without a subscription. Although they are specifically included in the boycott.
I’ve linked to a free version of today’s puzzle in the opening post, which doesn’t put give any money or views to the NYT. But get if people would rather stay away.
Agree with this. Quite like how they get harder throughout the week, Monday and Tuesday I’ll knock out on the bus to work, but the Friday will take most of the morning (in bits and pieces)
Wish they wouldn’t have quite so many go-to words though
Yeah the reused words drive me bananas especially when i want to do lots from the archive and i notice it even more
I got the subscription for a tenner just after xmas, has been worth it (haven’t read that first link yet but imagine it’ll involve not renewing it for 2026 though)
I’ve found myself not bothering with the mini in recent months as I try to get into cryptics.
There’s definitely a steep learning curve and I’ve got a bit of a wall when it comes to progressing beyond those for beginners.
Had a look at the one linked above out of curiosity. Would really struggle to get through it. Maybe one earlier in the week would be a bit more accessible.
Thanks, will give it a go later. Looks like when you share links from down for a cross you share an instance to collaborate on. I managed to find an incomplete version based on the above though.
