I agree, don’t think there’s much more that can be said.

As part of the physio I did for my knees I was put on an “anti-gravity” (lol) treadmill, that uses an inflatable thing to basically cancel out a percentage of your weight.

Holy shit, the difference that it made by subtracting a few stone from my weight was incredible. It felt like I could have run on that thing for hours.

But in the real world I do have to cart around that extra weight and my knees give out long before I get much benefit from the run. The kicker is that the hardest part of getting started with (particularly cardiovascular) exercise is when you start doing it. How cruel is that.

This is a little me, me, me, but I’ve definitely taken a lot from this. Most of my working days are spent doing cancer research, so my immediate reaction to these ads were that they were a good thing.

This thread has helped me to appreciate the harmful effects of them, which I hadn’t really considered. Seeing some of the replies to Hagen and some of the comments made have been pretty eye-ppening.

So nice one to everyone for sharing their thoughts and experiences. It’s really been appreciated on my end.

i’ve seen this stat quoted a lot the last couple of days, what study(s) is it based on?

It’s (now discredited) one from the 1950s.

Bit more info here:
