Yeah but if we’re going off fluff headlines and press coverage the Tories should have won a 100 seat majority last year

There are a lot of people in this country (especially in the media), who don’t want their privilege challenged, and they’ll vote for parties that put in place horrific policies that don’t affect them if they can keep themselves in blissful ignorance while being reassured that it’s actually moderate and the centre ground.

Also, this:

don’t know but one of the most depressing things is how popular he is with young voters generally
guess its partly down to them being too young to remember the dictatorship + young enough to mainly associate the workers party with corruption

But what’s Corbyn’s dance like?

Brazil election results

With 68% of the votes counted it’s currently on a knife edge if Bolsonaro will win it in the first round: he’s at 48.4%. Haddad can only hope for an improved second round, as he’s currently lagging far behind with 26.5%. Should it come to a second attempt he may get the votes from no 3 in the race, Gomes and his 12.4%.

79% of the votes counted now and it looks like Bolsonaro is not gonna make it, his share has slightly declined to 48.0%, with Haddad seeing a marginal gain to 26.7%.

Almost guaranteed to go to second round voting between the top two candidates. Bolsonaro is going to the runoff with very strong momentum. He needs to convert only a small fraction of the vote for other center-right candidates to win the election. The main challenge for him now is not to commit any major campaign mistakes. Not looking good for Haddad and the left.

46-29 in the end. Still higher than the projections which already had him winning in the 2nd round. Ugh. Know quite a few gay Brazilian people through my gf and especially can’t imagine what they must be going through

Since 1989, the winner of the first round was victorious in all five presidential elections that had a second round (in 1994 and 1998 Cardoso won in the first round). Most election experts predict a 75% chance of Bolsonaro winning.

solid crash course here:

Murdoch-owned Wall Street Journal saying that Haddas is also bad because he’s apparently like Venezuela/Cuba. Big surprise that the Murdoch rag thinks fascists and left-wing candidates are equivalent

They aren’t equivalent to them. The fascist option is vastly preferable.
