Whether there should be forced licensing,

Section 48 of the UK Patents Act already provides for this, m9

(I don’t think I disagree with his point at all tbf, but if I passed up an opportunity to nit-pick then I wouldn’t be much of a patent twat)

You’re going to be replaced by a patent robot and a card game playing robot. It’s inevitable.

Thinking about this I think the only function a robot to replace me would need to be able to perform would be to slowly destroy office chairs and use up blu-tack. And robots don’t need chairs or blu-tack so I guess I could even be replaced with no robot at all.

People keep saying this, but if I can’t even get my American colleagues to draft a patent application in a competent manner by following a set of fairly simple rules in a strict order, so I don’t hold out much hope for the robots.

OK this pointless subthread needs to move elsewhere.

a question even marx could never answer, because the phrase “lame ass motherfuckers” did not then exist

Conservative MP Sir Henry Bellingham said it was against natural justice

presumably the right way to let ‘natural justice’ take its course is to never arrest anyone and let Our Lord Jesus judge them appropriately on our final day of reckoning. seems like a good system.

It is of course fucking shit this injunction can happen, particularly given the charges levelled.

But I couldn’t help but feel a certain amount of WTF at a media mouthpiece and prop of the super-rich capitalist right getting all huffy at one of those people they’ve helped using all that money to thwart them.

One thing probably worth mentioning irt your first point is that (from the judgment) of the four people alleged to be victims of the alleged behaviour, only one fully supports publication and two of them agree with the injunction.

This story pops up every few months - Anyone know how likely it is the Government will cave? It’s utterly fucked up that so many MPs are supporting this.

Does anyone have any interesting info or anything on retail job losses and what’s absorbing all these people or is that not something that exists?

Probably being absorbed by grown in online. Someone’s gotta pack your ASOS order and deal with the return when you decide it makes you look a bit squishy around the middle or whatever.

that’s what I’d guess. Eager for some proper surveys and stats and all that malarkey but maybe that doesn’t exist yet.

or maybe games workshop have hired them all

A quarter of all supposed new jobs growth in the past six years has been through zero hour contracts, which means that people are not technically unemployed, even if they work minimal hours.

Which is fucking shocking and should be considered by everyone as a complete and utter scandal - is it even really employment when you might not be doing a job, or being paid? Such a grotesque market-driven approach to people as a resource and, on the government end, as a statistic.

You’ve also got places like all the bargain chains that employ people on 12/16 hr contracts, where usually they’ll get more, but maybe they won’t, but it’s ok cos the state picks up the slack.

Really terrible behaviour all round.
