This says that Picturehouses will also close if Cineworld does.

Big thanks to the incompetent politicians, incompetent film studios and film writers who kept telling everyone that going to the cinema was like having someone cough in your face for two hours straight who made this scenario possible

Also Picturehouses closing on Thursday just before Saint Maud and Kajillionaire were meant to come out? FFS

Couldn’t get into the Cineworld preview of Saint Maud tonight, boo.

Massively disagree with this, obviously

I didnt dislike it but I think the time loop tropes been massively overdone recently, and Andy Samberg is an annoying screen presence

Beyond the Mat is a ridoculously good documentary. Reckon even if you are not into wrestling you can still get a lot out of it, especially if you liked The Wrestler as it inspired i

The Reflecting Skin is a haunting beautiful film. Loved the atmosphere surrounding it

Gonna assume Wonder Woman and Dune will be pushed back to 2021 shortly and Odeon, VUE etc won’t have much choice but to close.

Going to try and get in a lot of cinema trips in over the next two weeks because I think it’s going to be completely off the cards until the spring. I’m hoping at least that repertory places like the BFI and Prince Charles will stay open.

Just absurd situation all round, leaving aside the risk of cinemas closing by next spring, no guarantee the pandemic situation will be significantly better by then and all these films crammed into next year will end up cannibalising each other’s box office

Same, starting with Miss Juneteenth tomorrow.

I saw The Trial of the Chicago 7 yesterday at Filmhouse, Edinburgh. Really enjoyable Sunday afternoon viewing. Whilst it is very much an Aaron ‘bunch of men sitting around talking’ Sorkin film, it is an interesting story that has huge modern day relevance. Usually not a fan of Eddie Redmayne but thought he was decent. Would recommend when it comes to Netflix (or go to a cinema if it is showing anywhere near you!).

Do you think this is particularly worth seeing in the cinema over watching on Netflix?

Am a fan of his screenplays but really disliked Molly’s Game so not feeling rushed to see this on a big screen.

After his performances as Dracula, Skeletor and Nixon, I’m looking forward to Frank Langella playing another of history’s greatest monsters

I mean, it feels awful to say this in a thread where we are bemoaning the loss of cinemas, but… probably not? Can imagine it would work really well on the small screen.

Hello, BFI, you’re showing an adaptation of what classic novel?

It’s a far, far funnier film than the first one as well. Raul Julia and Angelica Huston were one of the great screen couples, imo.
EDIT: and yes, editing is back!
EDIT 2: Angelica and Raul=relationship goals.

Was going to try to get in a quick trip to Cameo today for Memories of Murder before it closes down, but all sold out. Shoulda grabbed tickets as soon as the news hit :frowning:

Still hopeful for Filmhouse to do okay between the lower levels of competition, an audience made up of more active cinema-fans (imho) and also people who are happier to go to see old classics - but we’ll see …
