The last decade of stagnation is nothing compared for the forthcoming one…

Well, he’s been out of the game for a while, got to shake off all that House of Lords dust from this thinking cap. I think his reasoning was that it’s now definable as post-Great Recession, but that it’s been hard to see the step change because of the incredibly weak growth in the recovery from 2008. So to be charitable to him, you could categorise anything up to a couple of years ago as rebound from GFC, and then this is now a more evident period of stagnation. But you do have a point, and it’s an academic distinction.

(yeah, sort of what @anon76851889 said)

this is why I think a 2nd ref with deal or remain would end up with us leaving. Probably by a bigger margin than the 1st one.

‘Get Brexit done’ is a very adroit bit of messaging

Yeah, Corbyn had better be finding it hard to sit down with the size of the blinder in his back pocket

More apathy and exhaustion, at this point.

Their statement this morning is made to clearly emphasise the difference between this deal and previous deals, but as it went through on the nod it is exposed to the same rules that did for May’s MV previously. They want a showy rubber stamp for it rather than the passive agreement reached on Saturday.

if the deal passes, what do we need to be aware of in terms of the blame game the tories will play for any immediate impacts?

Yeah I think this is the line that’s been being pushed ever since Mogg announced today’s vote.

[Amused that autocorrect insisted I type lie rather than line there.]

I think the crucial thing will be how quickly people will see the problems, might be very difficult if it’s a quick general election “project fear 2.0” etc

it’s all very dispiriting isn’t it

… and the levers are being pulled by the blind.

Speaking of which. What’s the VoNC update?

25 Sep 2019:

“Until it is very clear that the application will be made, per the legislation, to the EU to extend our membership to at least January, then we will continue pushing for that and that is our priority,” Mr Corbyn told BBC’s Radio 4 Today Programme.

“When that has been achieved we will then be ready with a motion of no confidence.”

He continued: “I’m very happy to have a general election once we have taken a no deal off the table and the EU has granted that extension.”

The latest I read about a response from the EU to the current request for an extension is that the response might come on Wednesday. Assuming it’s granted, and Johnson’s attempt at a deal hasn’t yet meaningfully passed, are we getting our VonC on then? I know Swinlan has poopooed this previously, but there’s got to be some mileage in forcing the issue and making the LDs put up or shut up? What’s to lose? There’s no limit on VoNCs, right?
