Tactical voting is bullshit that entrenches parties nobody really likes. Vote with your heart.

It is, however, also an unfortunately pragmatic byproduct of a fucking stupid voting system that disenfranchises the electorate based on where they happen to live

Labour only need to win 320 seats to get a majority. This means there will be hundreds of constituencies where Labour either fail to win or aren’t even in the running. If you’re in a consituency that’s a CON/LIB marginal then unfortunately you’re going to be part of that number (I’m sorry). The election will not be won on these consitutencies so vote Labour cause the larger the vote they have for the next election the better.

Didn’t he flounce out of UKIP because they wouldn’t treat him like a special snowflake?

It won’t be won for Labour but it might be lost for the Tories.

I do think that, with the flawed system we have, a tactical vote against the baddies is probably more valuable in these constituencies than a symbolic vote for the goodies.

I think he announced he wanted to be the leader, and they weren’t having it, so he formed his own party, who it turned out also weren’t having it

In a weird microcosm of your post, the first time I ever had the concept of communism explained to me - as in, how it might apply to contemporary society, rather than however it’s described in school textbooks - was by a guy in the year above me when I was 16. I can’t remember the context but he was definitely advocating for it.

I last saw him about five years after he left school. He’d become a corporate lawyer in the City.
