I couldn’t tell from the article, but does it mean that this has always been the case due to how “joblessness” has been defined, or its a new thing due to a change in definition?

Been meaning to work it into an ISF meme somehow

Assuming no new Jewish female candidates are elected of course.

This one feels pretty weird to me in terms of timing - I can’t really see what’s triggered her resignation now rather than 2/3/4/5 months ago. Every criticism she’s made - fair/justified or not - seems to be a charge that’s been applied for ages. As with Berger/Hodge, I’m not going to tell a Jew that they’re wrong to feel under threat, but if can’t help but wonder what the actual trigger was or what they’re expecting Labour to do - there’s plenty of criticism, but painfully little in terms of how it can be solved beyond “no Corbyn”.

I’m very much an outsider but I’m still a bit lost as to what forms the antisemitic abuse takes

Is it mostly social media messages and stuff happening at labour meetings?

“The study found that more than 3 million people are missing from the headline unemployment rate because they report themselves as economically inactive to government labour force surveys, saying that they believe no jobs are available.”

I’ve thought for ages that the unemployment figures are a load of nonsense. My dad used to work as a careers adviser on a Youth Offending Team and he was always under pressure to categorise people in such a way that it kept them off the unemployment figures, sounds like that is exactly what’s happening here. “They report themselves as economically inactive,” would be interested to find out what this actually means in practice

It was looking likely she was going to be triggered by her CLP, I think. Thinking about it, it’s almost exclusively women who’ve lost trigger ballots so far isn’t it?

I don’t know, and I don’t know whether it applies to other countries either. Presumably the OECD figures are pretty worthless if they’re not comparable.

I do know that in the early 80s the thatcher government changed the definition, which had the effect of taking about 2million off the headline figures.

See I was right that is a completely sensible approach

More detail here

It is pretty amazing how much the DUP have achieved by just doing fuck all. That seems to be their core principle: we aren’t going to govern, we aren’t going to reach an agreement with anyone, and people are just going to hand us massive bags of cash.

Right, time to look at dog rescue places and fenlands estate agents. It’s been fun, this whole “existing within society” lark, but ahm oot.

Rentoul reckons that with the DUP the govt should just about have the numbers with just 6 Labour/ex-Labour MPs (your Kinnocks, your Flints your Hoeys etc)

Make up your minds guys
