tomorrow will be the FOURTH wake up to really shitty election news in (just over) 2 years.

I hope it’s at least sunny. it was lovely and sunny after brexit.

Sure but this is a wide spread logic within Scotland, however questionable, so becomes self fulfilling

Only 3 candidates!!! Still took me 30 seconds to work out what to go for.

I did say upthread that it’s not everyone… but it is a tradition that exists to some extent

I wasn’t making out that it’s because people don’t like Kezia Dugdale. I was saying it’s because Scottish Labour have no policies that are going to win back votes.

i don’t think scottish labour have generally run a good campaign and i don’t think anyone is obliged to vote for them but this idea that they’re “not winning back any votes any time soon” and therefore the SNP are the only option is proper stupid logic that treats voting like sports betting, “they’re not going to win so i won’t vote for them.” it only makes any sense in close SNP/tory seats (and if i was in one of those i’d happily go SNP) but we’re talking about a constituency where the tories have never done better than about 8%. would be a pretty phenomenal swing to pull off

i also agree that SNP seats can’t necessarily be treated as “safe”, which is another reason i bothered voting labour (rather than a throwaway green vote) even if it’s a pretty long shot

Done all I can. Saw a few rich old couples wearing blue though. Very odd behaviour that - kind of like wearing a t shirt of the band you’re seeing to the gig.

all that said, my old flatmate who’s doing my proxy vote told me that both her neighbours, in quite a deprived glasgow housing estate, have scottish conservatives posters in their window… so i’ll feel like a right fanny if that turns out to be indicative of a broader trend. i don’t think it is, but a depressing state of affairs nonetheless

Flew back from Croatia this morning and took my 80 year old father to vote. He has problems with shaky hands and ended up drawing his cross on both the Labour and greens box. Both officials had to carefully consult the rule book to see how they could give him a second bit of paper and if I was allowed to cross it for him.

Ty. My mum was also quizzed by the administrators on her nationality at the polling station too, so I think a complaint to the electoral commission is in order.

guardian’s posting about loads of students being turned away from voting keele uni as well. fffuuu

Just been up.

Voted for The Common Good Party, obviously

I didn’t say people weren’t voting for labour just because of kezia dugdale. But she has offered nothing since she took over the leadership and must be at least partially responsible for the single issue, soundbite-led campaigns her candidates are running.

Additionally, if you think I’m dumb enough to not vote for a party based on one individual and their work, what’s with the ‘Labour = socialist’ comment? A socialist leader does not equal a socialist party. See the reaction to Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership from within his own party for proof of that.

Also, as nice as she seems, my Labour candidate has been useless during this campaign,.offering except, you guessed it, Scottish Labour’s anti-independence stance.

Add to that the fact that I’ve got a choice of three candidates who are fighting to keep Scotland (at least) in the EU - Something which would shut down a lot of the problems we’re being marched towards.

I want corbyn to win overall, but I have other candidates I’d rather vote for.
