Walked past one near Cheapside recently and was in the market for a few extension cords. Saw that they were on sale in a big wire bin outside the shop and I briefly thought about stealing a couple but I didn’t because my pockets were full of pine nuts*

Not sure how they’ve kept going for as long as they have. Can never think of a time when I’ve been in just needing one cable, or converter, and haven’t walked out as there’s no way I’m paying that much for it. Hope all works out OK for all their staff.

Surely you can buy a cheap one of those from that Argos on New Oxford Street?

Maplin were pretty important to our Physics department in Manchester - we often had to pop down there to the RS Components bit at the back for stuff in the lab.

I feel like that side diminished a bit as they got bigger so I’m not sure if RS is okay but given they are international I guess they are. In fact RS provided me with a UK keyboard for very little money down here in Australia so I am forever a fan of theirs.

Can’t remember every buying anything from Maplin but I liked them being there.

Same way I felt about last of the summer wine I guess. Never watched it but I liked that it existed.

Once bought some coaxial cable from Maplin. Completely misjudged it and bought about 3 times as much as I needed. Kept the ~5 metres I had left over thinking it would come in useful for something one day. Threw it away when we moved house.
