A month or so back, I watched Playtime (1967) at home, having seen it on a load of best film lists, no idea what it was about
About 15 mins in I was getting a bit frustrated by it and wondering if I could manage a whole film of Mr Bean Goes To Paris
By the end I absolutely loved it and really wanted to see it again and thought how great it would be to see it on a big screen as there were probably loads of little jokes and call-backs I’d missed
Had a casual Google to see if it ever gets shown in UK cinemas, not expecting much, and the first result that came up was for the Duke Of Yorks in Brighton, the very city of my house, a week later!
Bought a ticket immediately and pursueded a couple of pals to join me and it was absolutely wonderful, got so much more out of it the 2nd time around and it’s now one of my favourite films

Managed to see Playtime at Hyde Park Picturehouse a while back and IDK how much I’d have got out of seeing it at home. Loved it on big screen.

sad I was away for the Alien/Aliens double bill here, and that the only Mononoke screenings appeared to be 11am
also think I badly want to do this, having loved the city generally when I went last year. Then discovered this was a thing just after we left (luckily not at the same time of year)

Yeah, love a good old film on the big screen. Will go and see 2001 or Seven Samurai at the slightest opportunity.
There’s one exclusively repertory cinema here which is hit and miss depending on the season and the main independent place has ramped up their one-off showings of cult stuff in the last few years.
Two weeks ago there was a Robert Redford marathon day so I saw Three Days of the Condor for the first time. Was good.
Actually hoping to be back in town in time to see Close Encounters of the Third Kind tonight as I’ve never seen it and very excited about They Live! on Saturday.

Was annoyed to miss the chance to see Babylon again last month. Not the one the one that ANT loves, but the British reggae one with the dude out of Aswad. Last time I saw it was on some anniversary rerelease in the early 00s but it’s great.

Convinced my partner to go and watch this at the cinema on Hogmanay a couple of years ago. Luckily she loved it or it could have been a long afternoon.
