None of that new-fangled stuff!

Have posted before but I love this one of James Joyce where you can’t tell what’s hat and what’s hair.
This is one of my favourite photos of Manchester because building-wise nothing’s changed but the street lamps and cars make it so noir and old timey

How long before the third photo in the OP has Phil Mitchell photoshopped into it

Love this.
Do you know the location?
Yeah, it’s Bootle Street. My friend Bartek took a modern day shot of it for a Noir project we’re working on, the angle isn’t quite right as I guess the building to his left wasn’t there in the 40s and he can’t get any further left so it misses off the police station to the right (still there but not for much longer)
Oh, and here’s a more recent colour version showing the police station on his insta:
Aha - I knew I recognised it (kinda). I had a couple of meetings at a place on Lloyd St which is a street or two up from there and looks very similar. Love it round there.
At first I thought it was Shudehill: years ago I used to go to a wholesaler there, Turner St. Think it might all be boutique hotels and hipster bars round there now.
Shudehill hasn’t really changed. There’s a guy on insta who just started building little versions of all the shop fronts in Manchester, having never attempted anything like it before APPARENTLY (refuse to believe this as he’s so good). Anyway, his first one was a Shudehill shop…

EDIT: Turner Street is Northern Quarter these days so yes, that street is full on gentrification
