The fact that Milner would walk back into the squad (even if Chamberlain was fit) after missing half of Liverpool’s games, playing a whole season at left-back and being retired for a couple of years sort of says it all.

As a whole, however, it looks very shit.

I just keep remembering that Jake Livermore is a genuine squad option. It’s absurd. The golden generation stuff was overplayed but the unfavoured CM options from 5/10 years ago would be our best options by a mile at the minute.

Struggled to pick a fourth choice for strikers: I’d have Delph or Young as a utility player tbh.

I mean, cheers for doing this mate. But it’s made me reevaluate our squad and the thought of this bunch of farmers up against Belgium’s finest makes me think football might not be coming home this year.

Win win for me. Funny when they lose but I do want them to do well. Winning a World Cup is something I think everyone should experience

this is chat and also a cop out

England will draw 0-0 with Tunisia, edge Panama 2-0 and get spiffed by Belgium.

In theory that should be fine, unless Tunisia absolutely twat Panama, then it might not be fine.

Second place in the group means we’d most likely play Colombia in the second round, so that would probably be that anyway.

So are the centre half options

Can see us getting knocked out by any of the Group H teams really. I try really hard to be positive about our chances in tournaments without being all flag-waving about it obviously, but that group of players is really uninspiring this time.

I think the gulf in quality between elite centre halfs and good premier league centre halfs is way narrower than the equivalent with midfielders. Genuinely think most of the CBs listed above would be fine really.

Not sure really.
Stones is the only half decent player there and even he’s liable for 2 or 3 mistakes a game.

Rose has barely had any game time this season. Inevitable he’ll be first choice imo.

Sessegnon would be my pick

Bertrand has looked alreet since Hughes took over tbf, think he’ll be first choice

A left-winger from the Championship over the first-choice left-back of the runaway Premier League champions?

First choice?

Delph’s been City’s left-back this season, aye.

Surman and Marc Pugh?!
