Sorry for the belated reply, but thank you for clearing that up for me. It feels like a lot of this discussion gets muddied by people conflating open relationships with all polyamory and so it ignores a lot of the nuance. Talk seems to be all open relationships vs monogamy, which tends to leave no consideration of closed poly relationships and other variations, because it is really a spectrum of different ways to structure romantic connections?
Also, @jazzballet that was very interesting, I have to admit that I had never considered the historical basis for that. RE lessons are so poor, you just get ‘this religion believes this and practices that…’ and little context. Though it is my own fault for not thinking much beyond that I guess.
