Opinions/advice from DiSers that have stayed with you

A lot of you are very knowledgeable and smart and astute, and a number of you within the community have given advice and shared opinions that have really changed my life for the better. I think a lot of my opinions on condiments are informed by what people were saying on DiS in 2011.

For a more specific example, @anon5266188 swears by swallowing jelly beans like pills prior to a run, and I’ve always been meaning to try it to see whether he was doing one of his infamous “bits”. I had 4 yellow jelly beans immediately before going out today, and well, let’s just say I beat my 5k PB by 17 seconds :sunglasses:

Please share examples of absorbing DiSers opinions/advice like this.

I think this would be fine, but he meant “swallowing like pills” didn’t he?

You’re absolutely right, and I’ve edited to reflect that.

For further clarification, do you swallow all the jelly beans at once with water, or swallow each jelly bean one by one with water?

@xylo told me that putting ‘but’ before the second half of a sentence makes the first half look like you don’t believe it. I now try not to do that, but obviously I fail sometimes

I think you must have influenced other people to do this too. Paying it forward:

Boy am I predictable.

Turns out you can store bread in the freezer. Can’t remember who that came from though sorry.

Tried peanut butter and cheese on toast as it was mad hyped on here but I have to be honest it was disappointing. Bad call.

I’ve learned loads from so many people here to be honest. Too much to really break down and credit.

The most efficient way to peel ginger is using a teaspoon. Silky came out with some unusual stuff from time to time but he was bang on with that one.

Waste of a sweet treat, imo.

It’s obviously, and justifiably, made a big difference to your life, and now you help it do the same to others.

All at once, like a big boy
