…politely, unless they’ve firmly crossed a line into being rude and awful to you first.

the longer i worked in customer service the shorter my temper got to the point where i definitely got a bit rude to people who were rightfully annoyed and not just the ones who were rude to me first, but i know it wasn’t very good behaviour on my part and the job was just wearing me down.

i think when it’s via email rather than phone/face to face there should be enough time after drafting your initial response to calm down a bit and think about improving your reply before you hit send as well.

Dunno, I like that asthmatic kitty acted human in response to an ungrounded complaint, better than being all corporate, they’re not amazon

i dunno, the post we’re replying to doesn’t suggest it was a particularly strongly worded complaint or anything but who knows.

this feels a bit like when people say it’s good when Donald Trump acts like a dick because they like that he’s human.

I’d say that comparison is quite a stretch. All we know is that they sent an email, presumably complaining about something that was nothing to do with ak, the response wasn’t harsh, seemed pretty proportionate

This is my hill to die on

Thank you! Exactly this

Thanks for well and truly putting me in my place! I waitressed for years and if someone complained about something that was out of my hands I would at least explain the situation and show a little empathy not say “Well at least you aren’t on a zero hour minimum wage contract!”

And also, not everyone understands how customs work. It is confusing that some things are stopped and others aren’t. Explaining this in a kind way to someone isn’t asking the world.

Probably everyone involved is a good person really

very different scale obviously but the same basic argument behind it really.

at the end of the day the person replying gave off a negative impression of the label to a customer and might make that customer think twice about ordering from them again, therefore they’ve done a poor job as a representative.

You’re a good man Bamnan! Perhaps @ttf and I will make it up to each other. I will certainly always hold them in my thoughts when ordering items from overseas

I wasn’t trying to put you in your place, you/your partner were the customers so are entitled to think whatever you want about the customer service you got, I just disagree is all. I don’t think telling customers that at least they aren’t on contracted hours is comparable, because that is unrelated to the situation that is out of your hands, where as ‘at least you have free health care’ wasn’t saying ‘well we have it bad in america count your blessing’, it is directly connected to why your order got held up by customs, because we pay more tax here and the customs process is needed as part of that.

guess maybe our different reactions are because I don’t find their comments that snarky, more factual/diffusing the situation with a bit of humour. anyway I hope I haven’t put you off the boards too much

No you haven’t put me off but thank you for saything that.

TBH I don’t know anything about postal customs. Was just miffed by their snark but I take your point and if they had explained that in a clear, nice way there would be zero beef :cut_of_meat:

Anyone who can compose this sentence definitely belongs here. Please post more often.

The TV ordered the Sufjan Christmas cd boxset from Asthmatic Kitty a few years ago.
